Ray groaned as he came to be, the glare of light stabbing through his eyelids. Blinking away the disorientation, he found himself face-to-face with a colossal slime, his puny form dwarfed by its sheer bulk. Swiveling around, he spotted a cluster of smaller slimes around him, all of them scuttling about on pure instinct. It was surreal, like a messed-up dream he couldn't shake off.
In a reckless attempt to prove his sanity, he leaped, only to be stunned by the fact that he could leap several meters into the air without a scratch upon landing. With a sigh, he recognized the game environment, which is a game he bought a week ago and a game he's been playing for a while. It seems to him that he has been reincarnated even though he doesn't know how he died, but how the hell did he end up as the weakest critter in the entire damn game?
His slime siblings were munching away on leaves and bugs, their slimy symphony making his stomach turn. Suppressing a shudder, he reluctantly joined the feast, hoping it would stave off hunger and more questions he didn't have the answers to. Just when he thought it couldn't get weirder, a damn screen popped up in front of him, flashing "Congratulations" like some sick joke. The bars showing his XP and level were a brutal reminder that he was basically the punching bag of this virtual world.
One of his achievements was this so-called "Gluttony at Birth" skill, which he seemed to have received after eating over 400 bugs and leaves, but the skill gives him the power to dissolve anything he stood on in seconds. Not bad, right? Well, except for the damn 30 seconds cool-down that turned it from a badass move to a frustrating waiting game.
Ray's mind drifted back to that mysterious screen that had revealed his experience, levels, achievements, and rewards. It felt almost like the screen had a mind of its own, appearing as if it could sense his thoughts. In response to his introspection, the screen materialized before him once more, as though it had a unique connection to his inner musings.
As he scanned the data, his gaze fixated on his attributes:
Strength: F
Speed: C
Acrobatics: E
Health: F
Amidst the array of feeble stats, there was a solitary standoutâAgility, marked with an A. Ray's smile of pride couldn't hold against the weight of the other lackluster attributes. The stark reality hit him hard, and he couldn't help but question, "Why in the world was he stuck as a crippled slime, the weakest of all monsters? Curse you, game creator!" His outburst began, but it soon dissolved into gurgling since, well, he was still a slime, after all.
As Ray indulged in his deep existential crisis, oh boy, he couldn't help but remember the good ol' days when he was the epitome of stubbornness and pride. Yeah, like his ego was as huge as Mount Everest. What a character, really. Not a single thing could shake this guy, except, of course, his mother's nagging, but we'll save that drama for another day.
And then there was the game he bought, oh the joy of mercilessly wiping out those poor slimes, especially when he recognized the very spot they popped up from. Like seriously, he must have decimated thousands of them without even batting an eyelid, chuckling away like some maniac who had just found their true calling. Oh, the joy!
But then, as he sat there, this nagging thought started crawling in, like the consequences of his brutal, slime-slaughtering rampage were finally catching up with him. Like, was this miserable, sorry excuse for a reincarnation all because of those innocent, defenseless slimes? He couldn't even remember the exact number of slaughtered slimes, but he vaguely recalled it being around 248,000. Yeah, maybe that was the magic number, the tipping point that led to this awful, despicable fate.
And as if things weren't already bad enough, he couldn't shake that gruesome image of himself, shredded and torn to pieces by another insane player, flashing before his eyes. It was like the universe's way of reminding him of the harsh reality he was currently stuck in.
Ray then realized that he needed to step up his game, to become something more than just a feeble, digital being if he ever hoped to survive in this unforgiving virtual world. Geez, talk about a wake-up call, am I right?
