In the afternoon, Georgina called to say grandma was hospitalized.
Jane Sullivan didn't inform Ethan and rushed to the hospital immediately.
In the Sullivan family, besides her father Sussano who adored Jane Sullivan, it was her grandmother who truly cherished her. Upon reaching the hospital, just outside the ward, she overheard Georgina muttering resentfully, "Jane Sullivan is the jinx of our Sullivan family. Yet grandma, you still treasure her like a gem."
Although Sullivan's elderly grandmother had poor hearing, she could guess the words from Georgina's lip movements. "Georgina! Don't think I'm so old that I can't hear or understand!" The elderly lady, despite her frail body, pointed at her granddaughter with a spirited energy, "If it weren't for Jane agreeing to let your mother bring you into the Sullivan family, even if I were dead and buried, you and your mother wouldn't have stepped foot into the Sullivan household! And now you dare to bully my granddaughter because I'm old and immobile? Call your father, I need to cleanse my house of you!"
Seeing her grandmother's emotional outburst, Georgina quickly tried to pacify her, "Okay, okay! I won't say it again, grandma. You rest, I'll call my sister and see where she is."
Pretending not to hear, Jane Sullivan cleared her throat and called out, "Grandma." The elderly lady, seeing her beloved granddaughter, immediately insisted on getting out of bed, "Jane, my dear, you finally came. I've missed you. I keep saying I'm not sick, but your father insists on hospitalizing me."
Ignoring Georgina's obvious annoyance, Jane Sullivan approached her bed, "Dad's just concerned about you, grandma. You fainting all the time is worrying. It's good to be in the hospital for observation, especially with the New Year coming. I'll stay with you in the hospital these days."
Seeing Fiona enter with fruits, Jane politely greeted, "Hello, Aunt Fiona." Fiona nodded and went silent after seeing nothing on the table for her.
Jane Sullivan knew Fiona was disdainful because she came empty-handed. She talked with her grandmother for a while until the doctor came in to remind the patient to rest. Assuring her grandmother they would be just outside, the elderly lady finally lay down obediently like a child.
Leaving the ward with Fiona and Georgina, the mother-daughter duo returned to their arrogant selves, especially Georgina, who taunted Jane, "What's the matter, Jane Sullivan? Are you about to be kicked out by your brother-in-law? Coming to see grandma empty-handed, despite her doting on you."
Used to Georgina's sarcasm, Jane glanced at the silent Fiona and retorted with a light laugh, "Does coming empty-handed mean I don't care for grandma? When I received the call, my first thought was to see her, not to bring gifts to show off. And do you really want me to be kicked out of the Grayson family that badly?"
"It's not about what I want. Yesterday, brother-in-law was in the headlines with designer Joanne. They're being called a match made in heaven. As an unseen Mrs. Grayson, being kicked out is just a matter of time."
Jane chuckled lightly, "Rest assured, even if Ethan kicks me out, I won't stoop to taking off my clothes for money."
Georgina paled, fearing her mother's suspicion, and shouted at Jane, "What are you talking about! Don't think just because you saved me once, you can slander me! I was tricked! If I had known it was that kind of advertisement, I would rather die than do it!"
"Whether they tricked you or not, you, Georgina, know best. Remember, don't stress grandma with such words again. Otherwise, I'll reveal all your misdeeds."
Fiona finally spoke, pointing sharply at Jane, "Are you accusing my daughter of misdeeds? What evidence do you have, Jane Sullivan? My daughter is going to be a big star! Your words are tantamount to slander! Without proof, keep your mouth shut!"
"And you, Jane Sullivan, are just a hidden Mrs. Grayson. What's with the attitude? Let's see how proud you'll be when Ethan kicks you out!"
Jane replied with contempt, "Even if Ethan kicks me out, I won't come back to see your faces in the Sullivan family!" With that, she walked to her father emerging from the elevator, pulling out a check from her pocket, "Dad, transfer grandma to a VIP ward. Keep the rest of the money. I need to go."
Sussano was stunned by the amount on the check—ten million!
"Jane, I can't take this money."
...
Sitting side by side with her father in the rest area, Jane Sullivan remained silent. Sussano, wanting to smoke but refraining, looked at a couple pushing a baby stroller, "Children are always the apple of their
parent's eye." He turned back to his daughter, his eyes misting, "I know, ever since you married Ethan, you've been unhappy. I know what kind of person Ethan is better than you do. I've realized that I can't let my daughter do things she dislikes for money. I've already rejected that billion-dollar deal from the Graysons, and now I'm thinking of mortgaging the company to them. Jane, consider divorcing Ethan. I don't want to see you suffer anymore."
"Dad, I'm not suffering." Jane Sullivan had not had such a heart-to-heart talk with her father for a long time. Ever since Fiona and Georgina moved into the Sullivan family, the distance between her and her father had grown. "I'm doing quite well now. Although Uncle Four is flirtatious outside, he has always been good to me. As for the cooperation with Jiahe, I asked Uncle Four to give it to Jiahe. So dad, don't mortgage it to the Graysons. It will only make the Sullivan family a laughingstock."
...
Leaving the hospital in the evening, Jane Sullivan was overwhelmed by her father's words: "I won't let you suffer anymore." Tears welled up in her eyes as she remembered the happy times when her mother was still alive, and their family was joyous and united.
As Archie drove Ethan and Joanne back to the company, passing by the hospital entrance, he noticed Jane Sullivan on the roadside, wiping her tears. "President, it's... Miss Sullivan."
Ethan rolled down the window and saw Jane Sullivan with red eyes, wiping her tears. What happened now? Was she bullied?
Joanne, pretending not to know Jane Sullivan's identity, asked in confusion, "Isn't that the secretary who was rumored to be having an affair with Justin?"
Ethan's expression instantly darkened, "Pull over."
"Why stop? Just call Justin to come and play the hero. It would be a lovely story of fate," Joanne said, reaching for her phone to call Justin.
Ethan snatched the phone away, "If you're so keen on matchmaking, why don't you think about finding someone for yourself first?" With that, the car stopped by the roadside.
He threw the phone on the seat, "First, take Miss Joanne back to the company. I'll be there shortly."
"Yes, President."
But Joanne was reluctant. Just now, she was only teasing, but she didn't expect Ethan to get angry over Jane Sullivan.
"Where are you going, Ethan? I'll come with you."
Ethan didn't even look back as he walked away, "I'm going to the restroom!"
