Chapter 1 - Awakening To Reality (1)

"How did I transmigrate in the first place?" That was Hyunwoo's first question as he looked at the cracked mirror and saw someone else inside there. Black hair with some gold strands, reptile-like golden eyes, and the most noticeable features were two little red horns stuck to his head. He had become a demon now.

But the real question here was… how?

He remembered the last thing he did in the real world was sleeping on a couch after a long tiring work.

"Did I die from a sudden heart attack?" The horror escaped his mouth and left him with a wide gasp. He recalled the morning news reporting many people dying unnoticed in their apartments due to heart attacks caused by heavy fatigue.

Hyunwoo was living alone in his rented apartment. In the workplace, he also had zero friends, thanks to his gloomy and dark expression on his face all the time. So, it meant that there was no one to check his corpse, and it would rot on the couch—making it smell bad, and his neighbor would call the police to find out what happened there, and he would be on the news with the headline, An unnamed office worker died alone in his apartment due to a heart attack and rotted on the couch because he has no friends or family.

"Ugh, that's really bad." Hyunwoo slumped his head down while trying to accept his miserable fate, dying alone from a sudden heart attack.

"Knock, Knock, Knock."

The man turned his head and found someone standing in the doorway. It was a girl, with an appearance around 12-14 years old in human age. She also had the two little horns like Hyunwoo but smaller, and her hair was deep purple, not black.

"Brother Val," called the little girl, glancing at him while looking a little bit scared. Right. He forgot that right now he was not Kang Hyunwoo, but a new whole person.

Valac Auremont.

He was one of a hundred side characters in [A Divine Tale of A Hero], an unfinished webnovel where Hyunwoo got transmigrated. There was no detailed information about him, as he only showed up in the first chapters to be beaten to death by the true protagonist—Ryland Sunshard.

As far as Hyunwoo remembered, Valac Auremont was a family member of Auremont House in the Demonic realm. Val was described as a useless trash, a brat, and a troublemaker. In his house, Val was never considered a part of the family, making him rebel more and want to prove his existence no matter how. He went to the Mortal realm and tried to beat some innocent kids but was caught by Ryland who accidentally passed the area, and Val was punished by Ryland using his legendary light attribute.

Yep, Val died instantly. His corpse shattered into dark particles and could never return to his home again, but no one in Auremont ever realized that Val had died because he was a huge scumbag that had no use even if he remained alive. Val's death became an initial event of Ryland's growth to be the legendary hero because he learned to kill evil beings and protect the weak.

"U-umm, brother Val?" stuttered the girl once again, making Hyunwoo come back from his mind.

"Tch. What is it? Just blurt it out already, you're wasting my time," hissed Hyunwoo with an annoyed expression.

'This is enough, right?'

Hyunwoo just wanted to stay in Val's real character for a while because a sudden change of behavior would create a huge suspicion. He must remember that now he was in the Demon realm, where a snap flick from an intermediate-ranked demon could make Hyunwoo's head fall to the ground.

The purple-haired girl looked so scared. Her pupils were dilated and shaking from fear. She mumbled, "F-Father wants you to join them in the dining room…"

"Whaaaaat?" boomed Hyunwoo once again, his eyebrows also twitching right and left, making him fuse perfectly into Val's bratty demeanor. The little girl was startled from the sudden loud question and burst into tears.

"Hic… hic… huhuhu… f-father wants you… hic—" She wiped her tears using the backside of her palm while still standing in the doorway.

'Shit, is it too much?' Hyunwoo did not wait another second to jump from the bed and approached her. He leaned over and stared at her with a guilty look. He never had a little sister before, but he knew that a little girl should not be treated like that.

"I-I'm sorry for yelling at you. I did not mean it like that."

"Hic, hic, really?" The little girl looked back at him with teary eyes, making Hyunwoo nod vigorously.

"Of course, it just… uh, I had a bad dream last night, and I don't feel well."

"Are you sick, Brother?"

"No! I'm not sick. I'm fine. Just a little tired." He shook his head and wiped the tears on her cheek using his thumb. He just could not let an innocent kid cry in front of him. "It's okay. I hear what you say before. I'll go to the dining room after this."

The little girl's face brightened again.

"You can go now. I'll change clothes."

"Alright then, Brother." She nodded in a cheerful expression and turned around.

"Wait," called Hyunwoo again.

"What is it, Brother?"

"What's your name?"

"Huh?" The girl tilted her head in a confused expression. Of course, she was confused because she did not have the slightest idea that the person in front of her was no longer the original Valac Auremont, but Kang Hyunwoo who possessed Val's body. She asked, "Are the bad dream infected your memories too, Brother?"

Hyunwoo shrugged his shoulder lightly. "Well, just consider it like that."

She scratched her cheek in confusion. "Huh… that's weird. I'm Luna. Luna Auremont, Brother Val."

"Right, Luna. You can go now, thanks for checking me."

Hyunwoo closed the door and left the girl with a dumbfounded expression. She stared at the door for a long time before mumbling something with a serious expression, "Brother Val never said thanks or sorry before. Usually, he just kicks me from the bedroom and yells at me because I disturb his sleep time. Did the bad dream really infect his memories?"

From behind the door, Hyunwoo put his ear on the door quietly and listened to all Luna's words. After the sound of Luna's footsteps faded away in the hallway, Hyunwoo pulled back his ear and then clicked his tongue. "Wow, this guy really is a lunatic. He even kicked his own sister? No wonder he was beaten to death. If I were Ryland, I would want to beat this scoundrel too."

That man looked at the mirror once again, staring at his new reflection. If Hyunwoo's real body was indeed dead, it meant Hyunwoo could not go back to his world even if he wanted to. He needed to find a way to survive in this body, even if it meant changing the plot.

"I think I need to investigate some information a little bit for now."
