Chapter 53 - 53

As they watched the ease with which Chu Tian dispatched Kirsks and his team, Notta and Hong Shang were deeply shocked.

It's important to note that without martial skills and the ability to wield their inner energy, it's extremely difficult for martial artists to effortlessly kill ten other martial artists, especially when facing their martial skills.

"What was that just now? What caused their heads to explode like that?" Hong Shang asked in astonishment, looking at the corpses with their heads pierced.

Upon closer inspection, Notta noticed the rocks near the corpses, indicating that it was the result of one of Chu Tian's many talents—psychokinesis.

Chu Tian retrieved his death scythe and turned to Notta. "This device here, you should be more familiar with it. Let's gather their supplies and dispose of the bodies."

Hong Shang and Notta wasted no time and began to search the corpses for anything useful, taking everything they could find, except for items requiring biometric identification or biological information, like bank cards.

Once they had collected everything they could, Notta and Hong Shang cremated the bodies using a makeshift fire.

After completing these tasks, Notta retrieved the remote control for the jamming device from Kirsks and deactivated it, allowing electronic devices to function once more.

At that moment, Notta noticed something small and unusual in one of Chu Tian's jacket pockets.

"What's this?" Chu Tian furrowed his brow, intrigued.

"It's a tracking bug. It updates the location of the target every half hour. It may seem trivial, but it's difficult to detect. It appears that the Tempest Legion has been tracking us using this," Notta explained, handing the bug to Chu Tian.

Notta and Hong Shang also found a radar terminal for the tracker among the collected items, as well as a hidden satellite monitoring jammer nearby.

The sophisticated technology was handed over to Notta for safekeeping, to be dealt with later.

Chu Tian shared his concerns about the increasing number of beasts gathering in the sixth task area. His psychic sense clearly indicated that various types of beasts were converging toward the center of the sixth task area.

It seemed that the impending assault on the human base was imminent.

Upon discovering another gathering of beasts, Chu Tian had Hong Shang send the video footage back to the base.

However, as of now, there had been no orders for evacuation from the base. Consequently, Chu Tian and his team had no choice but to cautiously continue exploring the task area.

As the number of beasts gathering in the sixth task area increased, Chu Tian realized that their mission was becoming impossible to complete.

These beasts had all congregated together, and killing one would attract thousands of beasts from the sixth task area to swarm them.

Chu Tian decided to send the video footage of the gathering beasts back to the base through Hong Shang. Still, with no evacuation orders forthcoming, they proceeded carefully within the task area.

Chu Tian began to speculate about the situation. "I have a bold theory. I suspect that some high-level beasts have evolved intelligence, equivalent to human intelligence."

While this theory surprised Hong Shang, Chu Tian remained convinced. After all, in many works of fiction, intelligent creatures, even among beasts, were not unheard of. Moreover, with the passage of time, intelligence could develop further.

Just as they hesitated between returning to the base or observing from the periphery, the gathered beasts finally launched their attack.

About one kilometer from the edge of the seventh task area, Chu Tian observed through binoculars as the beasts surged out of the task area, heading straight for the seventh human base.

It was at this moment that the base finally issued a full-frequency broadcast, ordering all mercenaries from the task areas to immediately evacuate to the second defense ring of the seventh human base.

Hearing this, Chu Tian's expression turned cold. It was clear that the base had delayed the evacuation order until most of the mercenaries were already dead. It seemed that the higher-ups in the seventh human base either had ulterior motives or were grossly incompetent.

"What should we do? Should we go back?" Notta hesitated, as he couldn't muster the courage to return and become cannon fodder, especially with the sight of countless beasts charging toward the base just a kilometer away.

After all, who knew whether their fate would be the same as the fifth human base, eventually reduced to rubble by the beasts.
