Chapter 16 - The Escape (2)

Celeste controlled a flaccid breath, even though annoyed by the fact that the other girls were leaning too close for her comfort. With her palm on the cold pillar, her violet eyes scrutinized the guards' movement.

She eventually threw a pebble, out in the open that created a noisy sound and gathered the attention she needed.

The guards left their position, each running as a moth attracted to a flame toward where they had heard the sound.

Celeste held out her hand, "Go" she commanded the other girls, when she noticed that the fence was now unoccupied by the guards. Which insinuated that they could leave as fast as they could.

She saw her mates run past her hurriedly, while her eyes were locked unto the guards.

They were about to leave- she noticed. And just then, Celeste came out of her hiding place and cleared her throat. She tilted her head to the back, "Looking for something?" Her voice resonated in the hallway.

The guards looked up to meet her gaze at once. "What are you doing here!?" One of them demanded, his hardened gaze resting upon her fragile frame.

All of them knew that the children were not meant to be outside. They were only confined to their quarters.

"Escaping. Can't you see?" She chuckled, her sultry voice ringing out once again.

The guard shook his head. He was starting to feel anger rise inside of him. His teeth momentarily clenched and his fists balled by his sides.

This nutjob of a girl had given him quite some arduous work for the past few years and Madame Rhea had promised to remove their limbs if this girl ever succeeded in escaping from this place.

With furrowed eyebrows, he pointed at her, "Seize her!"

The rest began to charge at Celeste with all their might. This girl or they would either get killed by Madame Rhea and they preferred the latter.

Under the hot, humid afternoon, Celeste's clothes were drenched in sweat as she sprinted down the long corridor. The stone walls were cold and damp, the flickering torches casting eerie shadows on the ground. She could hear the guards shouting behind her, their heavy footsteps echoing off the walls.

Her heart was pounding in her chest, and her breath came in short gasps. She knew she couldn't keep running like this forever, but she had to keep going. She had to get out of this place, this deadly manor that had become her prison. With every step, she could feel the guards following her in hot pursuits. The head of them surely would kill her after catching her.

The hot chase continued, and as much as Celeste would like to laugh in this situation, she didn't dare. This was a prominent situation and she had to handle it with her brain so that she could escape this hell hole.

She hoped that it was worthwhile and the girls could make it past the fence. Escaping the manor wasn't a huge problem. The plenty guards were.

Celeste made a sharp turn to the right, holding the wall tightly but ended up slipping away due to the rash movements. She tumbled on the ground, her body scraping the barricade as she fell deeper.

The guards ran after her as quickly as possible but unfortunately for them, she had unleashed the spears which had been hidden by a lock. And when Celeste's body collided with it, the lock was opened.

Hundreds of spears came rushing out of nowhere and began to pierce the guards in unimaginable places.

The one who had taken the lead, had his whole body pierced to the wall, by a large gate which had rolled out. While his mates suffered the pain of getting pierced by the spears.

Celeste groaned loudly as she fell onto a wooden door.

The thud broke the wood into two and she fell out of the door, onto a grassy area.

She moaned softly, blinking her eyes and taking in her surroundings. She hissed as she stood up to her feet. There was not a single part on her body except that it had a large injury. She winced, trying to find the other girls.

Meanwhile, Hermione and the girls had a tough time climbing the rocky fence. The large cloak wasn't even making it easier.

As they climbed hurriedly, the girls could hear the shouts of the guards growing behind them. It didn't take a minute for them to get caught by some sets of guards. And they followed them in hot pursuits.

They knew they had to hurry, but the fence was slippery and hard to grip.

Emily lost her footing and almost fell, but she managed to catch herself at the last moment. They continued climbing, their muscles aching with effort.

Emily felt her arms aching. They trembled uncontrollably. She felt tears prickling the corner of her eyes seeing that Daphne and Hermione were close to the top.

Everyone had their burdens to carry, she thought. Hence, the other girls were not thinking of helping her right now.

She boldly took a look to the back to see the guards making it to where she was, "Guys, please help me" she begged turning to the other two.

Hermione turned to look behind her, and she gasped when one of the guards grabbed hold of Emily's legs.

The terror in Emily's eyes didn't escape Hermione's gaze, she felt pity for the girl and was determined to help her even if they wouldn't be successful.

Daphne didn't share the same view as her, she couldn't afford to get caught.

"You can't" Daphne refuted with a frown on her face, sensing that Hermione wanted to aid Emily who was far behind them.

"We can try" She tried to persuade Daphne. The four of them had made it this far, and it would sadden her to think that Emily could be saved and they had not tried.

Hermione made up her mind, to go back for Emily. She shrugged off her cape with much effort and extended it towards Emily who grasped it hurriedly.

The cloth tore at the arm Hermione held, and Emily fell back. Into the guard's arm.

"Let's just go, it's of no use!" Daphne shouted one last time at Hermione.

Seems that the girl was not eager to leave this place and return home. Daphne continued towards the top and leaped off at once without caring where she would end. Her freedom was her priority at this point, and she couldn't trade it for Hermione's kindness, wanting to help one of them at the expense of her freedom.

From the corner of her eyes, Hermione sensed one of the guards approaching her from the side, panicking, she hurriedly let Cherry out, even though the process was hurtful. She had to save Emily.

She morphed into her beastly form, her white fur popping out of her body like magic and her red eyes glowing, as she swiveled and crashed against the guards below.

Emily found her left arm in between the sharp teeth of Hermione before she was tossed to the wolf's back and then they climbed the wall hurriedly.
