"Why did he protect you?"
The monster struggled to breathe, and as he looked in my direction, he spat.
A small barrier immediately blocked his spit.
He made a 'tsch' sound and looked at the crowd of monsters getting killed by the Dracanis.
"Why do you monsters keep attacking us?" I asked.
The monster didn't answer, and I felt him slowly channel his mana.
"Are you trying to recover your wounds?"
He continued to channel his mana around his wounds. The multiple wounds were closing up at a rate visible to their eyes.
But it was slow, and it looked like it would take him a full day to recover.
I shook my head.
"It's pointless. You can't escape."
"Why do you monsters try to fight, even though you know the result will be the same?"
He struggled to breathe.
"Shut up, human."
I let out a small sigh.
"Is that all you can say? Give an answer that would be useful to me."
A small smile formed on my face.
"Or do you want me to torture you?"
A windblade cut his leg, and he screamed in pain.
He held his leg up in the air, and purple blood splurted out.
"I already know that you won't tell me. We have tried multiple times in the past to capture one of your monsters to get information. But each time was in vain."
I sighed again.
"You monsters would always explode before we could get any relevant information. So there was no point in capturing you. So I might as well torture you just in case you might be different."
Another windblade cut his other leg, and he screamed in pain again.
It was a little pointless to torture him since they wouldn't give him any information.
But there wasn't anything else to do. My Dracanis were taking care of the crowd of monsters, and all the SS-rank monsters were already dead.
So the mission was basically over.
And seeing that the middle-aged monster tried to protect this monster, there might be a small chance of this monster being different.
"I already know that you won't tell me anything about you monsters. But if you answer me this question, I will kill you quickly instead of torturing you to death."
The monster looked at me.
"Are you interested in that deal? If so, answer this question. How did you know I was a human?"
He sat there in silence.
"I can't tell you that."
I nodded my head.
"I see, it was worth the shot. Well, let me rephrase the question."
"How did you know I was human if you didn't have eyes?"
He looked puzzled.
"Is that your question? If I tell you that, will you really kill me instead of torture me to death?"
I nodded my head. There was really no point in torturing him to death.
"I can basically see you through the eyes of my companions by using my technique. Which is why I could see you. But even without that, I can still feel your presence through sound."
'So something like echolocation?'
It isn't that amazing, then. Even bats back on earth could do that.
So this monster was comparable to a bat.
"Fine, since I got the answer. Let me ask you another question."
"That wasn't part of the deal." He interrupted.
"I don't care."
I looked at the dead SS-rank monsters on the ground.
"Why are you guys so desperate to die? Instead of just escaping?"
That was the thing that bothered me the most. And I could only make speculations for the reasons.
"I can't say."
He lay down on the ground.
"Just kill me already.".
I looked at the monsters getting killed by my Dracanis. Each one was getting shredded into pieces. Some were burned to death by the flames coming out of the mouth of the Dracanis. Others were getting pummelled to the ground.
Sometimes there were monsters putting up a fight, but after a few seconds, they would die. It was typically the S-class monsters or high A rank monsters who specialized in defense.
"You monsters keep invading with the same force. Don't you know it's pointless?"
"I don't care." He said.
"Well, you should care. Since your race will keep getting meaningless deaths like this,"
He started to laugh.
"Are you really grouping those mindless creatures as the same species as me?"
An arrogant smile formed on his face.
"I am way superior to those retarded animals. I don't care about their lives."
"What about your companions? They had meaningless deaths, too. Or are those also just 'retarded animals'?"
He didn't answer my question and just mindlessly stared at the air.
Or at least it looked like he stared at the air. He didn't have eyes afterall.
After a few seconds of silence, he started to talk.
"Why do you keep talking to me? Just kill me already!"
I scratched my head.
"Good question. I was just curious about what was going on inside your head."
Honestly, I had never talked this much with a monster before. Usually, they would die way earlier, either by getting killed by me or by committing suicide.
But, strangely enough, this monster wasn't doing that.
"Why aren't you committing suicide?" I asked.
He let out a sigh.
"Because I can't."
"Why can't you? Every monster I met in the past had the ability to do it."
Every monster that I tortured would explode when they wanted to commit suicide.
And I noticed a specific pattern. It was always when they were about to say some important information that their bodies would automatically inflate and explode.
Some monsters, when they knew they would die, would also just explode. So it was possible to explode on command.
It was a little horrifying to see at first. But now I am used to it.
Which is why it's a little confusing that this monster hasn't done that yet.
"I just can't.".
"Why?"
He snapped.
"Why the f*ck does it matter? Is this funny for you? Are you amused by showing your strength above the weak? Can't you just kill me?"
