In the kitchen, Lei Junshan moved quickly, his hands working with practiced efficiency. He filled a pot with water and set it to boil, then selected a packet of noodles from the pantry. He added the noodles to the boiling water, stirring them gently to prevent them from sticking. As the noodles cooked, he prepared a simple broth, using ingredients that were readily available: soy sauce, sesame oil, and a few fresh vegetables.
The soothing scent of the broth began to fill the air, providing a momentary sense of normalcy. Lei Junshan added the cooked noodles to the bowl, ladling the fragrant broth over them. He garnished the dish with a sprinkle of green onions and a boiled egg, cutting it in half to rest on top.
Carrying the bowl to the dining room, Lei Junshan placed it in front of Lei Junmo. "Here you go. Eat up," he said with a small smile.
