After the Yule Ball, Orion went back to his usual work like normal. But in reality, he was working even harder for some reason. This reason was what he learned later on when he visited Eric in the mansion.
He made sure not to come into the public eye at all after that point, so much so that he wasn't even getting his lunch or dinner in the Great Hall anymore. He had long stopped going there for breakfast anyway.
For food, he had Dobby and other house elves, whom he specifically instructed to deliver his meals to the Room of Requirement.
And just to show others that he was still living and present at Hogwarts, he kept up his daily physical training early in the morning on the Hogwarts grounds.
At this point, he wasn't getting any fitter; in fact, he believed that even if he stopped exercising, he wouldn't lose his peak state, thanks to his magic. But he continued just because he had found the process therapeutic. It relaxed him when his mind was in chaos. So at least a few early birds knew that he was still around.
Time kept passing like this, and soon it was time for the second round of the tournament.
All this time, Orion had kept his distance from others, even Rose and Daphne. Not only because he was pressed for time to experiment with the command seal, but also because it was important for him to stay away from a few certain people he would rather not come into contact with if possible.
But finally, that all came to an end when the second round was about to start. Orion arrived at the lake just like many others; the assessment was still the same as it was in the books and movies.
"Go and save the person most important to you."
'Who was the genius who came up with this round? I really want to give him a visit, Voldemort style,' Orion couldn't help but twitch his eyes in irritation.
The reason for his irritation and slight anger was who this generation of sheep-minded people chose to tie up at the bottom of the lake, with tons and tons of water pressing down on them and being surrounded by those sirens.
Who else but Daphne? Rose is, after all, a Champion herself. He could tell because the rings he gave to both Rose and Daphne were not only protective charms but also trackers.
Call him a creep if you want, but he would rather do this than keep worrying about both Rose and Daphne all the time. And by what was happening recently, he found that he was lucky to make those rings extra powerful when he made them.
Ultimately, he didn't do anything about it, mainly because, first, he knew that as long as those rings were with them, they were safe, and second, he didn't want to cause too much distraction right now.
He just casually stood in line like the other champions, ready to dive into the water and save the important person.
'Now I am a little interested in knowing who Rose has to save; she hardly talks with others that much, especially after how the rest of the students treated her after her name came out from that stupid, easily exploitable Goblet of Fire and she became a Champion,' Orion pondered with a little interest.
"Orion," Rose called out. Orion turned his head towards her and smiled. He had long told both of them that he wouldn't be able to spend time with them for some time.
So, Rose wasn't that surprised, but now that she finally saw Orion there, she wanted to talk with him. But Orion didn't want to right now. He just smiled and focused back on the task at hand. Internally, he just wanted to get through this round and return to the Room of Requirement.
All this time, he had worked really hard, but there was no progress on bringing back Merlin. This was making him go crazy. Although his grumpy personality due to lack of sleep and headaches was mostly gone, that didn't mean he was back to what he was previously.
In fact, right now he was more irritated and angry at the situation he found himself in. Even with so much power that he practically felt like he could destroy countries, maybe continents, when it came to what he really wanted to do, he felt powerless.
No matter what he tried or did, he just couldn't find a way to bring back Merlin.
Sensing that he was getting angrier and more out of control after thinking all this, he took a deep breath before finally starting the second round.
"Start," came the command.
And like a detonator blasting inside his head, Orion's reflexes were so fast they could beat the reaction time of a professionally trained Formula One racer.
While others dove into the water, Orion leaped into the air with pure physical power. Though he didn't go much higher, that powerful jump was enough to cover a 15 to 20-meter distance in an instant, leaving behind a broken platform where he had jumped from, and then dove down, easily leaping over everyone else right from the start.
Eight meters is the world record, and that's only with a running start. Orion did that jump while standing in one place.
