Wood.
McGonagall explains why wood is the best material for magic.
The reason why both wands and brooms are not made of any other material besides wood is that they are not a good conductor of Magic.
In fact, it's very similar to many energies on the planet, like metals like Iron or Copper being a good conductor of electricity.
Magic is quite similar in this regard. And this is also a reason why enchanting something like Iron is so hard.
Surprisingly or not, gold is a really good conductor of magic and thus can be used to make some really useful items.
The most stable and widely available good conductor of magic which can last for a long time is Wood.
So with that, the idea of using any other material besides wood for the broom was out.
Orion then decided to finally start creating his own runic array which can work on wood and will be better than other brooms.
So he decided to dedicate some time of his day to work on that. He needs to test out different styles of Wood to figure out which works the best.

"Remember, the nice wrist movement we were practising. Swing and Flick." Professor Flitwick said.
This was again a joint class with Gryffindor and Slytherin. Orion never understood why this school put these two houses together most of the time.
Orion taking out his wand concentrated on the feather in front of him.
He has already been absorbing magical power in Hogwarts for more than a month.
So he finally gave it a try. He already had learned the spell so the power was the only thing which was holding him back.
"wingardium leviosa," He said with proper movements.
Nothing happened, but he didn't give up. He put more power. And soon his hand started shaking.
"What happened, too much for you mudblood,". Was written on a piece of paper which came from the Slytherin side.
Orion didn't even give a second look and went back to his spell work.
"More Power. Need more power," Merlin said while looking at Orion's trying to lift the feather.
"It's kind of amazing how much intent you are putting out here. At its peak, your powerful intent is hundreds of times stronger than most wizards. I have no doubt that you have the most powerful intent and willpower compared to anyone else," Merlin admired.
'Yeah but what the point if I can't even lift a damn feather,' Orion complained and put more pressure on his magic.
"Okay then let me put it this way. If you had the same power as let's say Ron or Hermione here. Then you could have lifted that feather even without a wand. Remember Intent, spells and wands are all the devices which us wizards use to give direction to magic, tell it what to do and bring efficiency or focus to the execution of magic," Merlin said sagely but Orion who had heard this many times by now didn't even pay any attention to him.
He almost feels light-headed by this point but hard work often pays off. Slowly the feather lifted. And Professor Flitwick was paying special attention to Orion.
He saw the child execute the spell flawlessly. He could feel the magic and the powerful intent behind the magic. The child was not the first one to make the feather fly. But Flitwick was still interested in Orion as other professors had told him that he was a genius.
He noticed the boy's entire body was looking a little pale by the end of it and there was a little blood trail from his nose which he hurried clean.
He wanted to send him directly to the infirmary by this point but after seeing his eyes, Flitwick didn't do that.
Because he saw the acknowledgement of his own success in his eyes.
The half-goblin professor couldn't help but smile a little and add 2 points of Gryffindor.
'If only he had more magic, such a shame,' Flitwick couldn't help but shake his head a little.
----
After the class, Orion didn't attend the defence against the dark art class. He immediately needed his body and Mind nourishment potion.
Not like DADA class is anything important anyway.
"You might need a hobby besides magic. You are putting too much pressure on your body in this last month," Merlin said.
'I guess you are right. What should I do though? Any ideas,' Orion honestly never planned to get a hobby in the first place.
He was just playing along with Merlin so that the old man would let him alone.
"Trying writing a book," Merlin said without even thinking.
"A book," Orion repeated, asking why suddenly he would suggest something like this.
"Think about it, this world has long lost thousands of years of history about magic. It pains me to see the world falling like this.
I know that you are so much interested in the broom assignment not only because I told you to do it but rather because you want to make money out of it. That's why you are so intended to improve the brooms," Merlin said and Orion at this just gave a bashful blush.
"With all the knowledge you have and will get from me in future. Trading that knowledge could make you money and at the same time this will also help the magical world," Merlin said.
For Orion, this was not the only time that he had thought of something like this. But he worries that his knowledge will be used by the dark side of the magical world.
Voldemort is just one of the threats in the magical world. The Harry Potter Books and Movies are very focused on just one side of the world. It's not even a world but rather a school.
The reality is much more different. There are already stronger witches and wizards than Dumbledore and Voldemort out there somewhere. We just don't know where they exist.
There are other races out there which are hiding in the shadows. Something stopping them from acting and claiming the world for their own. Only after coming to Hogwarts and talking with Merlin, did Orion realise that.
"I know what you are thinking, knowledge is power and I agree with your thought that there will be people who will use this knowledge in their bad intentions.
But there are also good people out there, think about them. And not like I am asking you to give them all the knowledge.
Hold back the knowledge, only give enough that it will make others in the magical world either ask for more or search for themselves. In fact, I rather say that only give them the foundation at best." Merlin said and Orion started thinking about it.
He was never a genius or a manipulative person back in his life. He was just a common teenager with common fears.
"Then how much do you think we should give them," Orion asked. Maybe all the less dangerous knowledge that he had.
"Less than 2%," Merlin said.
This immediately made Orion look at Merlin.
"2%, That is like not giving them anything," Orion said.
"Hahaha, what do you know my young friend? I might be nothing more than a spirit or a memory but if I have something to give then it's knowledge.
I have not even started teaching you anything. Consider what I have taught you about magic till now being nothing more than Roger's Last Words which started an Era.
Let me tell you, that 2% of knowledge makes an ordinary wizard more powerful than even Dumbledore.
And that is barely the foundation." Merlin for the first time talked with arrogance in his voice.
Acting truly like the god of magic as this world portrays him.
"Let's say that what you say is true. If that is the case, tell me why would I want to make more wizards like Dumbledore who can dominate an entire century." Ask Orion with a little gulp and hesitation.
"Domination only happens when the difference in the status of power is too large. What you will be doing is not making a dark lord or a master manipulator. But rather empowering an entire new generation of magicians to grow stronger." Merlin replied and Orion thought about it.
"Fine, then let the world know the true Arcane. And if any problems come afterwards. Well, I will deal with it," Orion said with determination.

A/N: Not an interesting chapter but an important one in the story. This will mark a significant change in the Wizarding world.
Like Squib gaining magic. The Magical world getting exposed. Many hidden factions emerged and even fought and collaborated.
By the start of the second year, the changes in the Harry Potter universe will be seen.
By the way, I wanted to add that the power scaling with levels which I introduce might sound like incremental updates but that is not the case.
Only up to level 4 or the level of Master/Mage is incremental. This also marks the normal height of a talented and hard-working individual.
But after that level, the difference between other levels started to increase.
