Having [Memorization] was quite useful for Noir.
Even though he didn't focus on listening to the speeches of the principal and the council president, he could still grasp and remember what they were saying later on.
Not only that. After spending his time 'absorbing' information, Noir could now manage his thoughts, like discarding useless data but keeping the important ones.
'Umm yeah, that one isn't important.'
'Oh. So it's like that, I see. I guess I'll keep it in mind.'
It was as if millions of atomized versions of him were working in his brain, sorting the books like a librarian.
In the future, if he read all the books in the Haven Liberty Library-- no, in the world, internet included, he could as well be a walking library. A human codex that could beat even a supercomputer and AI, if there were one.
That wasn't impossible. At least until Noir discovered the [Memorization] limitations.
'There's no such thing as a perfect Resonance, including its Arts. Each power will have its weaknesses.'
The weakness that came with [Memorization] was it only enhanced Noir's cognitive skills and memory processes while maintaining his maximum "storage" system.
That meant when Noir was having an excessive amount of information, a phenomenon known as information overload would occur.
If there was an overwhelming volume of information to process without a break, it could lead to difficulties in focusing, encoding new information, and recalling it later. It also gave Noir an intense headache. as though his head was being crushed.
This had happened to Noir once when he was in the library. Fortunately, after that incident, he came up with an idea to prevent that.
That was to immediately sort the information he wanted to keep or to discard.
However, by doing so, Noir would have to be decisive and cautious when dealing with them in case he accidentally threw the important ones. Once he discarded them, he would be unable to remember them unless he learned them again.
In short, the [Memorization] made him like a computer that required routine maintenance.
"Haa..." Noir sighed. 'Somehow, I'll need a Curio that increases my brain capacity.'
He shifted his focus to the professor. After listening to his class, Noir discarded some information that was not worth keeping.
'I might regret this in the future, but I can't help it.'
Noir could have removed some of the unnecessary memories of his past. But he knew best that doing so was more idiotic.
'Living a life while forgetting about one's past is a life worse than death. But...'
Suddenly, he thought about removing the memories of most of the people's faces in Earthium that he had memorized.
After giving it a thought, Noir trashed them from his memory.
'They've gone, anyway. And it's not like they will be useful for me now.'
Indeed. Especially when there was a big gap in years between his time in Earthium and Earth. It was like a century, meaning that even though both worlds were similar, but since the era was a century-long leap, those people would have been dead already.
With the removal of billions of faces and their personal information, Noir felt his mind clearer.
"That's all for today. Don't forget to do the assignment I give you. We will review it next week."
With that, the class was dismissed.
Shortly after, the room was filled with students talking to each other.
As Noir cleaned his desk, he looked down at the crowd in the front row. There, he found a particular student surrounded by female students.
'Kyle Grandfall...'
Kyle Grandfall. He was one of the potential protagonists in Noir's list.
'Also, someone who scored first place in the overall test with a remarkable 100 points in the physical and Resonance tests.'
Being a Resonant who possessed a rare light element, which was included in his Resonance, Kyle became a target of attention from the big shots.
'Although I said he's from an ordinary house and parents. Now that he used the name Grandfall after his real name, he's not someone you can mess with even though he came from a humble background.'
It was because Grandfall was one of the top clans, whose head clan was the Resonant with the Commander Resonance.
Noir pondered about Kyle. 'Hmm... if he's already in a clan. Then, if this was a novel, he's definitely not in the beginning act anymore. Maybe the second or third?'
'Anyway, if the story is about him, the academy arc will be nothing but a filler.'
Shaking his head, Noir left the classroom after noting his observation of the first candidate.
'Next, let's see our second candidate.'
Since each candidate wasn't in the same class due to their class preferences, Noir intentionally chose his classes based on them.
Kyle specifically enrolled in the Theology class, which the other three didn't pick. Joshua took a Magic Control class. Felix was in Monster Research class. And Astor was in the Technomagi class.
However, there was one class in which all of them enrolled, including Noir. That was a Combat class.
'Even though they are stacked here. I will be prioritizing Joshua over the rest.'
The Combat class was the only class where he could meet Joshua because Noir didn't meet the requirement to enroll in the Magic Control class after all.
Changing into his training uniform, Noir immediately went to the indoor training ground.
On his way to his next class, Noir accidentally bumped into someone.
"Ah, I'm sorry..." Noir said, noticing the second-year badge on the senior's uniform.
Noir extended his hand. "Are you okay, senior?"
"Thank you."
While helping the senior, Noir's eyes examined him politely.
A brown blazer, brown pants, a second-year badge, a nametag, and a brown flat cap that yet revealed his face because he was still looking down.
Nothing seemed unusual from the person in front of Noir. But, after the senior lifted his face, Noir was stunned.
'It's that guy!'
Despite being born as a man, the senior was pretty-faced that he almost fooled Noir if not for his uniform. But it was not his face that stunned Noir. It was his eyes.
Noir couldn't help but be mesmerized by the senior's ruby-like eyes.
Receiving a weird stare from Noir, the senior shivered.
"Uhh... Can you please stop with that stare?"
'What?!'
Noir finally got a grip on himself, quickly throwing his gaze away. But now, the problem was in his hearing.
Clearing his throat, Noir said:
"I'm sorry for being rude, senior. But can I ask you something?"
Still feeling the chill from Noir's stare, the senior nodded silently.
"Go ahead."
Putting his hand under his chin and meticulously scrutinizing the person in front of him, Noir asked:
"Why are you wearing that uniform?"
