Chapter 144 - Chapter 144 - The Real Deal

Analyze.

The active abilities of the weapon include the ability to produce the flame breath of an elder swamp dragon queen although it could be varied in strength as desired by the user.

The next active ability is allowing one to blend seamlessly into one's surroundings camouflaging them from predators and prey alike. Weather manipulation within up to three steps and complete control over mists and fog further increase one's ability to hide and obscure one's movements as well as confusing adversaries. These abilities are significantly stronger within a swampy or bog-like environment.

The ability to control plants within the perceptive radius of the sword is also granted allowing the wielder to cause plants to grow rapidly, creating obstacles or entangling enemies. The strength of this ability is dependent upon the terrain in which one is traveling. The more natural vegetation in one's surroundings, the better it will work.

At will, the user may activate Marshfang's venomous blade. Marshfang will secrete the venom of an elder queen swamp dragon while making the user immune to all lesser poisons as a passive bonus.

The passive abilities of Marshfang include ranged telepathy with any creature one can see or who is known to Marshfang's owner. If one is already skilled with telepathy, the range is increased significantly. The wielder will regenerate their health and even regrow limbs given enough time. As the wielder gains additional hit points, more health will be regained each day.

The final passive abilities provided are the increased senses and low-light vision of the cat and swamp dragon and always knowing one's location within any swampy environment as well as the direction to their known destination.

This weapon contains a lord level ability to shape-shift into any creature seen by the wielder within a reasonable limit of mass. The exception to this rule is one may always turn into a swamp dragon or bogstrider cat, however, the size will be dependent on the original stats of the owner, thus allowing them to take on different forms or sizes to adapt to their surroundings or to interact with other creatures. The abilities of these creatures, with the exception of the swamp dragon and bogstrider cat are not granted by the sword.

Marshfang provides a 25% increase in the likelihood of the user moving quietly. Strength +50, Endurance +50, Agility +25, Movement +15, Perception +30. Rarity: unique.>

Von whistled in amazement. This was a beast emperor level artifact. Items could be considered an artifact when they had more than five beneficial attributes with no negative attributes. Marshfang definitely qualified. Just the increase in stealth and the attribute bonuses added to more than five, then there were the actual abilities. Was this what might be considered a god tier artifact?

System, how long would it take me to heal with my current health?

Von looked to Oren. "Are you sure I can have Marshfang and Felinblade, plus two other gifts?"

Seeing how powerful Marshfang was, Oren understood the boy's doubts. "I gave you my word. The blades and two others are yours."

Von's mouth widened to an awed grin. "Thank you," he said bowing before Oren fully ninety degrees in respect.

Oren just patted Von on the shoulder. "Get up. We have both learned from each other. I guess you've deciphered the secrets of the sword?"

Von nodded.

The elven smith continued. "Since that's the case, please enlighten the rest of us with the details of the fruits of your labors."

"I think Marshfang is an artifact."

Grimdon piped up. "I believe that will be for us to decide, but please continue. It is your creation, and you did seem to learn of its abilities."

Von took in a deep breath while looking at his marvelous blade. "First, Marshfang provides a large increase to one's strength and endurance. Much like Felinblade, it also increases one's agility, ones senses and perception, and movement. She will extend the range of my telepathy significantly and provide me with regenerative abilities."

Vorolen spoke, "How strong is it? Is it similar to an actual swamp dragon? Once they get so old, they can regenerate almost their entire bodies given a few weeks."

"From what I've been able to tell, the beast core was from an elder swamp dragon queen around fifteen hundred years old plus the bogstrider cat's core in the crossguard. Would that make it old enough?"

The dwarf looked to Vorolen. "So, you did get an ancient heart from that year. They said an ancient was killed, but no one saw the heart from it. I thought based on the age that it should've had one. Now I know it did and where it went."

The elf shrugged. "The heart Von used to create Marshfang was no larger than the others in my collection. In fact, it's smaller than two of those still in the drawer. I had no idea it was an ancient swamp dragon from the heart. If anything, from the size and color, I thought it was an adolescent."

Von agreed. "I took the smallest one in the drawer just in case I whatever I made didn't turn out well."

Vorolen eyebrows went up in surprise. "So, the weyr queen was smaller than the others?"

Von nodded. "Yes."

"Interesting," came her reply. "I'm sorry to have interrupted you. Please continue, Von."

"On top of the other abilities, Marshfang still gives the low-light vision belonging to both the cat and the swamp dragon. She also allows me to always know where I am within any swamp-like area and to never get lost as long as I know my where I want to go." Von paused to allow the opportunity to ask questions.

"Next, Marshfang has its own form of dragon breath which I used to ignite the forge. It seems to travel in a cone starting at the crossguard and stays centered on the desired target. It allows weather control with a greater ability to control fog and mist. It also has plant control within a certain area to allow them to grow faster or tangle more or some such.

Marshfangs blade, as you saw, can be venomous at will and make me immune to lesser venoms. Then there's the ability I didn't try yet. It can allow me to shape-shift into something else I've seen, but I don't get the new shape's abilities with the exception of a swamp dragon or a bogstrider cat.

To me, this is absolutely the best weapon I've heard of. It has so many different abilities. That's why I thought it might be an artifact." He concluded.

Grimdon nodded. "She is indeed an artifact. A very high tier one at that. Can we see you shape change?"

"I will need to attune to Marshfang first. I've never done it before."

The three master smiths exchanged glances, silently acknowledging the gravity of Von's words. Marshfang was indeed a marvel, a weapon of extraordinary power and versatility. It was quite clear to them now the boy had crafted something truly remarkable, something well beyond their expectations based on the level of his skill. His ingenuity in bringing out so many abilities was amazing though.

"Very well, let us witness this attunement," Grimdon said, his voice tinged with anticipation. Just concentrate on pushing your aura into Marshfang and allowing the heart's essences to become part of your aura.

Von nodded, steeling himself for the task ahead. With a deep breath, he reached out to Marshfang, feeling the connection between them grow stronger with each passing moment. Closing his eyes, he focused his thoughts on the sword, allowing its essence to flow through him. He knew it would take quite a bit of time to fully attune to anything.

The atmosphere in the forge seemed to shift, becoming charged with a palpable energy. The master smiths watched in silence; their eyes fixed on the young apprentice as he delved into the depths of the sword's essence.

At first, Von's movements were slow and deliberate, his concentration unwavering as he sought to establish a connection with Marshfang. As he attuned himself to Marshfang, Von could feel the sword's power coursing through his veins with each passing moment, a surge of energy and understanding unlike anything he had ever experienced. It was as though he was becoming one with the weapon, his senses sharpening and his awareness expanding to encompass the world around him.

As the minutes turned into hours, Von remained steadfast in his determination, his focus unyielding despite the passage of time. The attunement process was a delicate exchange between wielder and weapon, a sacred ritual requiring patience and discipline.

Marshfang's blade changed colors several times until finally, after almost an hour, Von felt the attunement complete, and a sense of exhilaration washed over him as he gazed upon the sword in awe. Opening his eyes, he looked down at Marshfang with a newfound sense of confidence burning in his heart. It had taken an hour of intense concentration and meditation, but now he was truly bonded with Marshfang in mind, body, and spirit.
