Their car ran down the drive way until it was at the gate. Mr. Joe honked to signal their return. There was a little wait before the gate opened. Mrs Parker was the one opening the gate. She stepped aside for Mr. Joe to drive the car in. He did just that but he did not park it, instead he left it at the center of the house. Leo was first to get down. Mrs. Parker came and hugged him immediately.
'She knows'
Leo realized. He sank in to her embrace. He was tired and he was finally noticing it.
Anamay got out of the car and joined the hug. Mr. Parker watched them. He used to be a stung hater of these things but right now, it was ok for them. In fact, he needed those too but no need to interrupt them, Lace was his wife. He would get his own later, however he wanted it. Believe me, the way his heart weighed at the thought of Demetri. That he was going back to Stare at all the things he owned and be reminded over and over how he died; the hug from his wife was certainly not going to feel romantic.
"i have to start going now. I need take him to…" It was Dr. Joe's voice.
He was taking to the Mr. Parker.
"… you know," he ended the statement.
"Of course," Mr. Parker affirmed, getting down from the back of the pickup car. He went round to where Elish was.
"You should get down too." Elish looked at him and looked at the car.
It's not that he does not want to get out, it's that he does not know how. He looked back at Mr Parker, hoping his switching gazes would pass the message. It did not.
"Come on, Elish. There is no need to be shy."
Elish raised a brow.
'Shy, surely not'
It seemed embarrassing to be unable to do what everyone was so conversant with.
"Do you know how to open the door." Elish's gaze ran behind him, it was the doc. He had noticed.
"No," he replied.
Mr. Parker also heard what he said.
"Oh, really", Mr parker spoke too, realizing now that Elish was trying to tell him that.
"Move aside a little", Mr Parker told Elish. He did. The man brought his hand into the car and pulled on the ledge that opens the door. The door pooped open.
"Did you see what I did," he showed the ledge to Elish.
"That is how you open a car door."
"I see," Elish gave an enthusiastic reply.
Mr Parker moved aside for him to get out of the car. They both took steps forward, allowing the doc to restart the car, wheel back and turn, leaving the house. Mr Parker made a gesture to
Elish wit his eyes, to follow him. He did, they both went over and locked the gate.
Mrs. Parker was now talking to the kids, hugs and kisses over, when her husband got to her. She watched him until he was close enough.
"Honey," she said. He smiled.
"Lets go inside."
"Alright." Mrs. Parker moved with the two kids, Elish followed, walking behind her husband.
They went into the large one story building through the white front door. There was a walk way in which lead into the main house. Elish wondered why they stopped when they got in there. Then, they started taking off their shoes.
'Oh, So what you use to cover your feet outside is not what you use inside the house' He summarized.
There were soft pampams at the second layer of the shoe rack where they kept the ones they just took off. There was a size for everyone, Elish noticed. Each person took out his own and wore, heading inside when they did.
Mr. Parker and Elish were the ones left after the three went in. Mr Parker went over, put his shoes In the rack and took out a pampam. He turned and dropped it In front of Elish.
"Take off those things and put this on."
"is that not yours," Elish asked.
"I do not fancy this dumb tradition. I like walking around bare footed. But my wife will not allow it for anyone else."
'Oh so here, she is second in command'
"Alright," Elish bent down, wore out the old thing on his leg, put it in the rack like he saw them do then put on the soft slippers. His weight flattened the poor thing to the ground. It's puffy beauty gone.
Mr. Parker looked at the slippers. He signed, what uncanny strength.
"Lets go in." Elish did not move until, he did. Tagging along from behind. They walked into the sitting room.
Bright white chairs sat in three places, a short rectangular table In their middle. They were facing a glass wall that exposed an angelic view of the green flower garden. The chairs were almost 5f tall and 4ft wide. All of them. The gab between each of them over two feet. The living room was indeed very big to accommodate such large chair and still be so spacious. Mrs Parker sat on the chair that allowed you to face the door conveniently.
"Where are the kids?" Mr. Parker noticed their absence.
"They both went up to their rooms. Anamay said she would call her parents. Leo was just exhausted"
"Oh, I see." Mrs. Parker looked at Elish for the first time. His jawline was the first she noticed, probably because he had his eyes down… what sharp jaw, she thought.
"What's your name?" she asked. "Elish", He answered.
'An odd name too. Well certainly he was a teenager but he looked like an overgrown one. Like he had been doing manual labor his whole life then he grew tremendously tall too'
"Elish what?" she asks another question.
"I do not…" Elish rose eyes. She saw them. Her eyes grew wider.
"Remember anything other than my name."
Mrs Parker did not process his last words immediately. She was immersed in those double colored oddness.
"You do not remember anything else?" she looked at her husband. She was finally understanding things now. He gave her the 'we will talk later' stare.
"Its alright. No rush."
"Exactly," Her husband butt In.
"Elish come with me. We are all beat. You should be too. A good bed should suite you, right."
"Thank you" Elish said.
"It's no big deal." Mr Parker stirred, giving Elish a pat on the shoulder will he walked past him.
Elish Followed him like he had been doing since they came here. They walked to and up the serpent curled steps, into the first floor. Mr Parker lead Elish past five rooms and stopping at the one on the extreme. He pushed the door open and gestured him forward. Elish responded, making some steps into the room.
The room had been painted moody brown, the bed, cream in color with pillows duller than the color of the room. There was a cushion on the wall quite far from the bed. Ash in color and navel blue and oval pillows in two places on it. The room was big, very big. If you continued a straight walk, you would be entering a the space that was created when the wall took a turn in.
A huge closet was leaning on the wall facing the bathroom door. Elish summarized that the somewhat separate areas was to differentiate the bathroom from the rest of the one room compartment.
"Make yourself at home." He heard Mr. parker say from behind him.
Before he could turn to say another one of his polite 'thank yous' Mr Parker had closed the door.
He breathed. Such good people. Some how that fact marveled him a lot more than it should. He walked to the bed and sat down. He was not feeling sleepy at all. But he knew better not to go outside. They must be discussing what to do with him. Better to stay here and wait to be called out.
Mr Parker got downstairs. His wife was still sitting on the cushion. She looked at him and spread out her hands. The middle aged fierce hunter climbed in, like a child into her arms.
She kissed him and held his head close to her heart.
"Am glad I did not lose you too." she said.
"I wish it was me. I wish it got me Instead. Not Demetri. Am sorry, I could not do anything. With all my power I could do anything." he was not winking back his tears at all. Before his wife, he was not intending to play strong.
"Shhhhh." she shushed him, tenderly.
"Do not say that. What would we all do if you were gone. I cannot handle these children alone. And spending my life a widow… please do not say that. Our Demetri is some where beautiful now. This world was not a great place anyways. He left early. That's not bad at all. He did not get to see all the shit if this world and he did not get to do anything that would send him to hell for sure. That is a good thing. Please wipe your tears. He would not like to see you like this, Mhmm." Her husband shut his eyes, letting the last drop of tears drizzle before he, slowly, wiped them up.
He was sitting on the floor between his wife's legs. He looked up to her. She bent over and he let her kiss him again.
"Who is the boy?" she asked when their lips had slipped apart.
"I am not sure either. He brought Anamay back after she was left in the forest by that beast. He says he does not know anything other than his name."
Mrs. Parker gave him a disbelieving stare.
"Hell, I did not believe it either but then I watched him do other things; he could not even open a car door. I knew then that for sure, the boy has a mental impairment and it causes him to forget a lot of learned things. So far, what he can do are mostly involuntary actions."
"What are you going to do with him." she asked.
"I will send his pictures to the police to cross it with their missing person's data and see if they can find a match," her husband replied.
'And if they do not?" she asked another question. Mr. Parker smiled.
"One at a time," he said finally.
"Alright." She did not ask again.
"I want to go upstairs. I want to take a bath." Mr Parker said to his wife.
"Alright", she said again with her lush British accent. A slender woman in a thin sleeveless gown made of satin, was clearly a great age younger than her husband. Her eyes were deep blue. Only Demetri had them.
She moved to the floor. Her husband got up walking behind her. They went through the stairs up to their room, the first one on that floor. Mr Parker pushed the door open, walking in. His wife closed it behind her. She turned, he was right in front of her but a step away.
Breathing slowly, his heart racing. He pressed his hand on the wall and tilted his head, his lips touched hers, kissing her. The little lady burning up immediately.
"I thought you said you wanted to take a bath." his wife whispered in her small tender tone.
"Maybe later." He found her lips again. This time, he was going all the way.
ELISH
I was lying on the bed now. Sleep was not coming certainly but it was nice and quiet so I closed my eyes. Time had really passed. No one was coming to get me. I figured the negations on my head must be plenty which is why they could not seem to reach a decision.
*Tsk*
What If they decided to send me away, No, I doubt that at most, they would not want to keep me here. But in case they did, I would ask to go back to those woods. There was no way I could live in this location. With the houses I saw, the weird food people ate. The creatures on the road.
The way they dressed. The constant yelling. Everything was too odd and too hard to cope with. I would not die but I would sure run ma…
I heard footsteps. Squeaky ones. Well, my pampams had been pressed to the floor when I walked there was no way I could tell it was those slippers that made that noise. So I could not guess what was coming my way. Well, whatever it was, I had all intentions of getting to it before it got to me.
Immediately, I was on my feet and my hand in the door. I had gotten used to my abnormal speed so it did not surprise me. I pushed the door open. The perpetrator stopped on their heels.
"Amamay?"
'Oh it's just her. Did they send her to get me?'
She was wearing something lighter and yellow. Drawings all over it. She did not look like she was not coming in secrecy. Never the less, I asked.
"Did they send you to get me."
"Who?" she whispered in utter wonder and illiteracy to what I was asking. It was just like I guessed.
"Never mind," feeling quite ridiculous for asking that question, I made to close the door. She squeaked fast and held the door.
"Wait." She looked at me, her eyes spelling secrecy.
"I want to talk to you."
My hand left the door. I walked back to the bed and sat down. She slipped in and close the door softly.
"Woof" she giggled.
"They do not usually allow girls in the boy's room even if they are as close as the parkers and me. But It was an emergency and all, I had to break some…"
Her glittering eyes fell on my plain stare. My disinterest killed her chattering mood immediately.
"Mmm," she clears her throat.
"I… em. I am Anamay. She moved close and extended a hand.
"I know." I said coldly.
"Oh, of course." She must have remembered the time I called her name and she withdraw her hand, embarrassed. Instead of fleeing, he used that.
"Thank you. For the hug… and for bringing me back safely too." she tried to make it look like the hug seemed less important to her. Why she did, I did not care to know.
"It was instinctive. No need to get your head wrapped around it."
"It really meant a lot to me. Because of you, am alive."
I heaved… she really wants a more emotional reply from me. Fine…
"Am glad you appreciate it. You deserve to live. I guess that's why I was compelled to save you," then I flashed a smile.
'Satisfied?'
She smiled back, exposing two big bunny teeth. I actually found that pleasant. I saw her eyes trail off. Something had attracted it. Something on my skin. My back precisely.
"What are you looking at?"
"Oh, nothing" She looked away.
"You can look, if you want to," I said. There was no need to be hostile to her. Anyways, my 'stick to her like blue' impulses were gone now. Maybe they would act if she was ever in danger again but she will not be often so I had no reasons to worry about those spontaneous acts of care.
"Can I touch it?" she asked. I was quiet for a moment.
I turned my head and pulled on the collar of my shirt, clearly revealing the scare she was looking at.
"Go ahead." I said. I had my legs crossed on the bed now. She came close. Her body held by the edge of the foam. She extended her slender fingers and…
I felt them slide down my neck. Unconsciously, I let out a silent moan.
"It looks like you got hurt by a bear. The wound is so big and..."
Her hands went down touching my breast bone. I grabbed her fingers. She flinched.
"Enough."
I was feeling the sensation from the tips of her fingers on my neck even more. They were twitching me down there and I didn't that feeling. It was good in all the bad ways.
"For a girl who is not supposed to be in the boy's room, you can be quite daring."
She withdraw her fingers from mine immediately. I looked at her.
"I have a lot of sensitive spots. Be careful."
Her cheeks turned peach pink immediately. She cupped her face and turned.
"Am so sorry. That was not my intention at all. Eh, thank you for everything. Good night." She was out the door faster than I ever would.
I smirked.
It's still twelve o'clock the afternoon, dummy.
