Chapter 19 - The Silver Light Reappears

When witnessing a mighty lake suddenly freezing before one's eyes, the shock of the spectacular force of nature is a profound and genuine amazement. Lucas stared with his mouth wide open, looking at everything before him in a daze, tears almost streaming down. Truly, there's always a way out when there seems to be none! As the wind swept across the vast expanse of the frozen water, he couldn't help but raise his arms and exclaim, "It wasn't in vain that I came to this era!" However, Ariana by his side didn't share his leisurely sentiment. She turned around, pulling him, and ran towards the lake, saying, "The hunting army is trailing us, if we don't cross the lake quickly now, it'll be too late!"

Lucas finally realized what was happening, turned around, and ran towards the place where he tied the horses. At this point, it was essential to find something to wrap around the horse's hooves to cross the lake as quickly as possible! As for what to do after crossing the lake, with the vastness of the world, there were plenty of places he and the beauty beside him could go. Just when he was simultaneously happy and worried about the hunting army behind them, a tremendous shout erupted from the far south, where the hunting army was likely stationed. The sounds of all the people and horses starting to move reached his ears. Groups of hunting army scouts emerged from the horizon and behind the hills. These were the same scouts who had been monitoring them from a distance last night. However, this time, these hunting soldiers weren't there just to observe and then leave. Fully armed, they advanced menacingly. Many knights immediately took out their longbows and nocked arrows. The arrowheads emitted a chilling cold light, aiming directly at them. Both Lucas and Ariana, holding the reins of their horses, were drenched in cold sweat. The freezing of the Caspian Sea had pushed these hunting kights to their limits. They were willing to risk it all for what was on Ariana's amulet. Even if it meant shooting them all dead, they were determined to leave the Sacred Amulet with them.

Ariana ripped the Stardust Amulet from her bosom and raised it high. The approaching cavalry's movements paused slightly, then slowly closed in. Arrows quivered slightly, always aimed at the two of them. From a gradually closing distance of five hundred paces to about three hundred paces, they were about to enter shooting range. Ariana aimed the knife at the Stardust Amulet, assuming a posture of desperate determination. She whispered to Lucas, "You prepare the horse, I'll hold them off!" Then she raised her voice and shouted loudly at the approaching kights, "Don't come any closer! Otherwise, I'll destroy the Stardust Amulet!"

Deeply looking at her, Lucas lowered his head to wrap the horse's hooves in tattered cloth and tightened it with force. With Ariana's shout, the kights indeed hesitated, stopping their steps nervously, sizing each other up. The standoff lasted only a moment, and then the sound of hooves from the south became prominent. The massive figure of Cyrus, along with the hunting army's banners, appeared on the horizon! Cyrus raised his hand from a distance, "Approach and shoot! Princess Ariana, you have no choice. Hand over the Sacred Amulet of Great Persia! If you destroy the treasure, you'll be the eternal sinner of Persian. Regardless, I won't let you cross the Caspian Sea. Pick your choice within the two hundred paces!"

With a metallic tremor in his roaring voice, Cyrus swept across the vast water. Ariana's body trembled, and she turned around to look deeply at Lucas. Her eyes were filled with a distressed expression. The footsteps of the hunting army of Great Persia slowly advanced, like a wall moving forward. Having secured the last horse hoof, Lucas exhaled and straightened his back.

Behind them was the frozen Caspian Sea, and above them was the pale winter sky of a millennium ago. Across the vast and frigid wilderness, a well-equipped cavalry advanced with a menacing aura toward a beautiful young girl.

"I've been here, seen the era, and even kissed her. That's enough!" In his original era, Lucas was known for being carefree and open-minded. What else was there to care about now? If he didn't survive, it would just be another trip through time! In this era, during the brief two days of fleeing on horseback, embracing a beauty, wielding a long sword in battle, it felt more like his true life. What did it matter if it was shorter?

The silver scar on his hand began to heat up, causing his heart to boil like a fire. He picked up the long sword and hoisted Ariana onto the horse. The girl turned back to look at him anxiously. Lucas grinned, revealing a row of white teeth in the wind. "You go, I'll hold them off. Hope we'll meet again."

With a heavy swing of Cyrus' hand, the cavalry, previously advancing slowly, shouted in unison. They shook off the reins and turned into a rapid assault, charging straight at them!

Is he sacrificing himselve for me like this? Tears filled Ariana's eyes as she trembled, her grip on the Stardust Amulet becoming unsteady. Should she stay and die with him, or should she leave on her own to seize the slim chance of survival and find her father? Meanwhile, Lucas had raised his sword, preparing to strike the horses hard.

At that moment, Lucas suddenly screamed in pain, clutching his hand. The scar on his hand burned as a silver light erupted from it, similar to the scene from that night. The coarse silver light, resembling a giant dragon, leaped from his hand, soaring into the sky and piercing through the clouds!

The sound of startled horses echoed from all directions. Even Ariana's horse reared up in fright. Everyone in the scene was bathed in a pale silver light. The Stardust Amulet in Ariana's hand also heated up. Beams of colored light swiftly circled, embellishing the silver light column. Billowing mist rushed out rapidly from where they stood, and in the blink of an eye, it filled the entire wilderness.

The charging cavalry was thrown into chaos, people shouting and horses neighing as they collided. Each person shouted meaningless words, panic reaching its peak. What on earth was happening? Looking around, one couldn't even see their outstretched hand. Only the silver light column spewing brilliance was visible. Could it be that their Saintess was not just a beautiful idol but actually possessed earth-shattering abilities? Even a Saintess like her had abandoned Great Persia. Was Great Persia truly doomed?

In the thick fog, only the steady roar of Cyrus echoed: "Why you panic? We are the Hunting Army! Aim at the silver light and shoot arrows! Maintain the pace, continue the pursuit! Even if they escape into the sun, we must pull them back!"

Ariana's panic was no less than that of the confused Hunting Army. The Stardust Amulet in her hand was always considered a precious ancestral relic that both Great Persia and the Persian people valued. The mystical legends and myths were merely a source of amusement for her. Using such tales and myths to consolidate the hearts of a nation was understandable, but she usually dismissed them. However, now, the young man by her side recreated the strange scene from that night. This time, it came with large clusters of white mist. The Stardust Amulet in her hand grew so hot that it was almost slipping away. Even in such thick fog, she could see streams of colorful light... Could it be that all those legendary myths were true?
