Luca was surprised at how comfortable Sophia and his driver had gotten with one another in the short time he had been away from both of them.
Before they left the bakery, she retrieved a paper bag and one of the fresh chocolate croissants she had made that day. They went outside when Gus was there and Luca couldn't have predicted that she was bringing it out for the driver.
Gus was dedicated to the Morelli family but he had too much of a soft heart. Because he had already seen too much, they had to keep him close to them so hiring him as Luca's driver was the most feasible option. It was also why Luca trusted him to take Sophia from one place to the other without him there.
Sophia handed the driver the dessert and his eyebrows rose. Normally he simply took the bag and thanked her, but he peered over his sunglasses at both Luca and Sophia.
"Aren't you going to take it?" Luca asked. "Don't let me get in the way."
