The continuous lack of transparency around what happened to Rosa was eating Sophia alive. She had thought that following the police officer into the kitchen would give her a moment to look around but, upon setting her eyes on what was supposed to be a really good month for both of them, Sophia couldn't handle it.
She thought of their last conversation about Rosa studying for finals before she would be able to put all of her time into all the orders they had. It would be only her second holiday season at Prince's Pastries but she had proven herself the year before. It was supposed to be a fruitful season.
All Sophia could think about were the what-ifs. It became unbearably heavy to carry and she broke down enough that the police officer didn't know how to handle her sadness.
