The thought of going back to the bakery in the daylight was horrifying.
When Sophia naturally woke up at 4:30 am, her first instinct was to get out of bed and get ready to open the bakery. Instead, she pulled her knees to her chest and silently cried.
After sleeping for a long time and waking up with clarity, the pain came rushing back. Luca had taken her mind off of the situation enough for her to fall asleep but she had to face reality eventually.
Even when her grandparents passed away, she didn't know if she cried so much because it was expected with how old and sick they were towards the end of their lives. At least she had the bakery to run so they would always be around her. However, even that was ripped out of her grasp.
Luca had turned off Sophia's alarm before he fell asleep, wanting her to rest for as long as she could, but when he heard a quiet gasp and saw that the room was still dark, he knew that she hadn't slept past her usual time.
