For Luca, it was hard not to blame himself further. He had woken Sophia up many times in the past and she was always happy to see him.
Instead, she woke up not knowing where she was and her first reaction was terror. He couldn't imagine what she must have experienced in such a place as the dingy love hotel he found her in.
The only words Luca knew to say would put himself down so he opted to move closer and brush some of her hair out of her face. Her green eyes remained on him as he took care of her.
"The doctor said you need to eat but you've been in here for hours," Luca gently reminded her. "I ordered us a few small things to eat."
Sophia's gaze left Luca and she realized it was nighttime. She glanced at the clock on the bedside table.
"Were you working all that time?" she asked.
Luca nodded.
"Just a few things I need to catch up on," he explained. "My work is never finished."
