"My innocent Lily! It's not a pretty tale and you have enough on your plate right now. I will tell you some other time," he placed his hands on hers and quietly informed her, his voice edged on excruciating pain he felt deep in his heart.
Skyla scoured his eyes and all she found was agony, so she didn't push any further.
"Promise that you will tell me someday," she asked in a whisper.
She knew his life had been far from a bed of roses. She didn't know the extent of it though and what had been done to him. The reason he was so adamant about helping her and all those who were stuck.
It was strange the moment his life changed hers took a nosedive. As if fate had been playing some cruel game with them.
