The couple used the secret passage of the elves to escape from the other demi-human leaders and their forces.
Before emerging, however, Benjamin peeked through the ajar slice of the entrance and observed the surroundings. The news about Meskles' death had already extended toward every corner of the hidden mountain base as the elves used their wind magic to convey that horrific news, wanting to find the culprit.
A few elves keeping an eye on the secret passage had whispers of conversation glancing off them.
"It must have been those wolves…"
"I agree."
Hearing their words, Estelle's ears and tail went erect with caution. She stifled her breath and glanced at Benjamin, who had softly smiled at her adorable reaction.
He shook his head, telling her it couldn't have been them weighing on the elves' minds. It was too fast, and there must have been some internal trifle between elves and wolves.
