Chapter 20 - Beginning of an End

Outside the chamber, everyone froze. They all wore similar expressions on their faces: confusion, shock, and most of all—fear.

The fear wasn't just born from the rapid rate at which Calyx was drawing Quasarite to himself. Rather, it was the darkness that now exuded from Calyx, the evil they felt that made each one of them hesitate.

Calyx was oblivious to everything going on outside. In the darkness he found himself in, he wasn't even capable of thinking about it. Now, all that filled his mind was the entity before him.

"Should I tell you my story, child?..." the voice of the entity asked, a hint of contemplation within it.

"I should. After all, it's a long journey we must go on," the voice said.

Then, suddenly, the darkness began to shift as something else began to form. It was a place, surrounded by a mist of red, with a sky filled with nothing but dark clouds. Calyx saw nothing but a large throne and a dark figure that sat upon it.

"Deep in the depths of Exar, far deeper than any of these outsiders could ever dream of reaching, I reigned as king," the entity said, and Calyx could see the revelation of figures that bowed down to the entity on the throne.

"King of a realm of near infinite strength, I was...a god. I ruled over the entire realm of Exar, unchallenged for time too vast for your comprehension. However, it did not last forever," the entity said, as the scene changed and six other dark figures surrounded the entity.

"The Tribunal. They came to me with a proposal—expansion. They believed us ethervores were far too great a species to be limited to the realm of Exar when we could have so much more. They suggested we go out and conquer the rest of the universe...I declined," the entity explained, the eyes of the six other figures glowing as Calyx could feel the anger emanating from them.

"I had believed that what we needed to do instead was go deeper into Exar. Yes, even us ethervores had never reached the end, and I planned to change that. The Tribunal did not like that. We did not see eye to eye, so they wanted me gone. However, they all lacked the power to make that a reality," the entity explained as the scene changed to darkness once more.

"So, they found someone who could," the entity words dry as Calyx saw another figure standing. Unlike the others, he felt nothing from this one. Its form felt fake, almost like it didn't exist or it was impossible for it to exist.

"One of the ancients, ethervores who existed eons ago. They had failed in one of their attempts for greater dimensional existence and lost their lives. However, using immeasurable power, the Tribunal resurrected them, only for minutes, but that was all they needed. Against the ancient, I lost, terribly. My body was taken from me. I had only managed to escape with my consciousness, wandering the universe for years while constantly being searched for, to be completely erased from existence. This is my story, child," the entity concluded.

Calyx, summoning all the courage he could muster while still looking deep into the eyes of the entity, asked, "What does this have to do with me?"

"Excellent question. You see, while wandering the universe, that's when I saw you—the only one of you outsiders I had seen with such a high affinity for Quasarite. You have the potential for power you cannot even fathom, so I chose you. I chose you as my vessel for revenge and to regain what I had lost," the entity said.

"Vessel? So you're the thing that's been inside me all these years," Calyx asked, his fear slowly subsiding.

"Yes, I saved you from the explosion and took the life of the one you wanted dead," the entity informed him.

"What do you want from me?" Calyx asked.

"The same thing you want from yourself. Don't you seek answers, to know what lies in the Exar realm and beyond? For that, you need power, power that I shall help you obtain, as our goals are aligned," the entity explained.

"And if I don't accept?" Calyx asked.

"Then we struggle for control of your body, a struggle I assure you I'd win," the entity said.

"Well, you still have time to make your decision. For now, you must vacate this planet as it shall soon meet its destruction," the entity warned.

"What? Why?" Calyx asked, confused.

"Now that I have been fully awakened, my power—they must have felt it. A hunter must have been sent already to get me. This world doesn't stand a chance," the entity said.

"What are you saying? Stop it! Stop them from coming!" Calyx exclaimed.

"It is too late for that now. This is a necessary challenge you must face in this journey you have begun. My name is Moros, child. Do not forget. Now survive," Moros said.

The darkness disappeared, and Calyx was brought back to reality, standing and looking at a scene that left him in shock.
