Chapter 10 - A SECRET OPERATION

Domain

The entire day went on chaotic as usual and soon darkness had befallen the entire area. It was time for everyone to sleep but of course not me.

How exactly did my father expect us to survive in such a place? No single provision for upkeep when of course it was a part of the bargain. I only chose to give it a try because it was my father, my biological father for that matter.

I left the two inside and slowly patrolled the area. I would use my means to leave the area and ensure survival but would I leave Seb behind? The dude didn't seem so terrible that he expected such terrible treatment.

In my mind was displayed Seb's image and holy moly. He was so not the Sebastian Yates I could figure out or rather imagine in my mind.

Ever since his stay, he'd had absolutely nothing to change into, and finding food was also far from his reach. His hands were so tender that they could bleed at a slight exposure to anything sharp.

'Oh, poor guy.' I thought inwardly my entire senses alert. Something was fishy. I could feel some footsteps all over. With my training of course I would detect even the slightest sounds from a distance.

Something had to be done and out of impulse, the first person to come into my mind was Sebastian. How disgusting, I probably picked the the weakest backup. Slowly we began to walk towards the direction I'd earlier detected the sounds.

I saw the guy yet again, he was certainly up to something fishy. Why would he bend to place something underground? All my senses were alert and I could detect several other footsteps.

"Are those ghosts hunting for food?" Seb asked holding the hem of my dress tightly. He freaked out but c'mon, I was a girl and he was the damn man. I hadn't expressed my badass killer self towards him so it was a pity to his wife.

He would depend on her for survival instead. Thank God for the frequently experienced earthquake. Due to that, the landscape was just so rigid with small hill-like structures giving us several places to hide and watch.

I saw the man removing something from his pocket and straight to his ears. Oh! how I wanted to act up but of course could not risk to the point of letting Seb know who I am.

In no time the figure disappeared out of our reach and I had to ensure a follow-up on him. My eyes landed on Sebastian, we had to split up meaning he would either be by himself or return to the house and sleep.

"Hey Nobody," I called, and even before I could finish my statement, my eyes landed on the sight of burning houses. It was one massive explosion and that was it, I was sure no one would survive at such a point.

I looked at the tensed Sebastian, his life was all I had to protect at all costs. I was sure that the explosion had something to do with Seb's life. Why would the house we were in be the first target of the explosion? The others were only victims of being close to us.

"Let's save your mother." He said and I held his arm, how foolish of him to not realize he was the first target of extinction. If she hadn't brought her with him then he would have been a different story.

Besides, her assumed-to-be mother was also part of the military. She had signed an agreement that would be the reason for her demise. She had pledged loyalty to the states to ensure the protection of the first family.

So Seb's life was rated more important than her's. Sebastian looked at the sight of burning houses, he could hear the sound of breaking bones underneath his feet. Truly the woman cursed the land. He had to agree it was the valley of death and a place of skulls.

"Let's save our lives first, Mommy is reduced to ashes," I said trying hard to look victimized when I wasn't. With the type of job I had, it was natural to see dead bodies every single day that passed.

"So she's gone just like that, wait so they're both gone and reduced to ashes?" He asked shaken. He'd never witnessed such a tragedy in his entire life I guess.

"I'll name it the Valley of Ashes." He said looking at me and I held his sweaty hands running in another direction. My senses were alert and my sharp eyes noticed vehicles from a distance.

A chain of vehicles for that matter. "Hey Nobody, I dunno how to drive do you?" I asked the dumbest question I'd ever thought I would ask my entire life. Of course, it was only natural he'd be the best driver between the two of us.

"We'll take that one," I said pointing towards the coolest of them all. "It looks fancy," I said and he nodded. In no time he was already at it, driving like a fool which I liked.

Mine was simple, searching the entire vehicle to find out whether it was safe and whoever was behind our attack. Something seemed off with the sudden attack. We were ambushed and I thought it was the terrible gang I'd heard about from my father.

He'd warned me about such an ambush at times but my eyes confirmed my doubt. The vehicle belonged to General Bohea, he was my father's trusted agent. He carried out all my father's commands without failure.

I looked at the card in my hand, so a helicopter was waiting for them close by. He was to ensure the death of the two of us at all costs? I looked at the messages sent to the guy, he was so stupid to not enter a password lock on his smartphone.

I laughed at my foolishness the team burning up in the houses had already been bribed to peacefully give up their lives for the benefit of their loved ones.

"Turn to your left Nobody." I directed and he did. All I wanted was to avoid the helicopter thing. With the phone's GPS, I could tell the direction that would lead us to a nearby city.

I knew the general and his team would go deeper into the area to ensure our lives were no more. That would give us ample time to escape.
