Elijah and Kai wandered through the town, with Kai wearing a lazy expression. "We should have brought Adan along," Kai muttered.
"Why's that?" Elijah asked, waving his hand in a strange manner that caught Kai's attention.
Kai watched him for a while before asking, "What are you doing?"
"Huh? Oh, it's a technique I saw Julia using," Elijah explained casually.
"It's interesting, but why are you taking people's money and putting it back?" Kai wondered.
"I'm just practicing the technique, that's all. But what were you saying about Adan?" Elijah responded.
"I was saying we should have brought him because he knows these people better than we do. We can't just find the person we're looking for out of nowhere—we need to know everyone's habits," Kai replied.
"Or maybe the person we're looking for isn't here at all," Elijah added.
"What do you mean?" Kai asked, curious.
"Well, we haven't sensed anyone even slightly powerful in this whole town. If I were them, I'd stick close to Stella.
I think she's looking for it too. The moment she finds it, I'll find it as well," Elijah said, still focused on his technique.
"You know, you might be right," Kai admitted, surprised. He stared at Elijah for a moment before asking,
"I've never asked you this, but why don't you take anything seriously, except when it's a life-or-death situation?"
Elijah stopped what he was doing and looked at Kai with a confused expression. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Kai mirrored his confusion, which made Elijah sigh. "Bro, I seriously don't know what you're talking about. Is it so bad that I worry when a friend might get killed?"
"No, it's not," Kai said, smiling.
Elijah elaborated, "Taking life seriously every day is boring. It's better to have fun along the way until I die."
Kai didn't say much, his eyes landing on a tavern. "Let's grab a drink."
"I'm good. Besides, you promised me meat, didn't you?" Elijah's smile widened.
"Damn it," Kai groaned, regretting his promise.
Later
"You know I don't have any money left, right?" Kai said as Elijah continued ordering more food.
"Why should I care?" Elijah shrugged.
Kai sighed, staring at the few coins left in his hand. Not long after, Adan walked in. "I knew I'd find you guys here."
"Shouldn't you be with Julia?" Kai asked.
"Yeah, but I left. I think she'll be fine on her own," Adan said, though a sad expression briefly flickered across his face before he forced a smile.
Kai noticed but remained silent. "Can I borrow some money?" he asked, pointing at Elijah, which made Adan laugh as he sat down next to Kai.
"Okay, Elijah, can I ask you something?"
