Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Push Push Kai

Bang! Bang! Ting! Ting!

Kai deftly blocked shots and arrows, moving swiftly from place to place. He excelled in agility and precision, which made him a formidable opponent. His enemies were long-range fighters who might know some close-combat moves, but their gear indicated they couldn't match Kai in close quarters.

The challenge was reaching them; every time he tried to close the distance, they reacted swiftly, knowing that if he got close, he would go for the kill.

Kai swung his sword, blocking a beam-like gunshot and a light arrow. "What to do? Their attacks are getting annoying, and they aren't even using their full strength," he thought, sighing.

"Should I use it and surprise them?" The thought crossed his mind but quickly faded. Using that move consumed a large amount of mana, and if he didn't kill them in the first few minutes, it would be game over for him.

Jumping from tree to tree, Kai dodged and blocked attacks that were becoming increasingly faster. It reached a point where he could barely dodge them, focusing more on defense than evasion.

"Damn it, they're increasing their speed," he muttered while fending off light arrows and ray beams.

Kai coated his sword with his dark element and slashed forward. "Lightless Slash!"

The attacks were destroyed, but more kept coming from every direction. This gave him the opportunity to release his other sword. "You're just an ordinary sword, but let's see how long you can last."

Covering the second sword with his dark element, he started slashing faster and faster. Sometimes, he could only deflect part of the attack, ending up with minor scratches.

"How long do you think you can last?" a female voice taunted, followed by a man's laughter.

"HAHAHAHAHA, don't taunt him. But I think we should increase the volume," the man said.

The speed of the arrows and beams increased, moving close to the speed of bullets. They began hitting Kai relentlessly, even though he protected his vital areas. Both enemies unleashed their full power, their speed escalating.

"What should I do?" Kai thought, moving his swords faster than ever before to defend against the endless onslaught.

Kai's eyes glowed yellow as he pushed himself to the limit. With each slash, he not only blocked the attacks but also unleashed his own counterattacks. No strike landed on Kai's body as countless moon arcs destroyed the incoming arrows and beams.

"Push, push, Kai, fight!" Kai shouted to himself, flames roaring within.

The woman shooting rapidly thought, "This is getting troublesome." His gun overheated, and he switched to a smaller one. In that brief delay, Kai noticed it, his mana being consumed at a high rate.

Taking a quick breath, he said, "Two Sword Style: Dark Twister." Swinging his swords around, a dark tornado formed with him at the center, blocking all attacks. The two enemies paused as the woman's weapon cooled down.

"Let's finish this!" the man shouted, readying a powerful light arrow that illuminated the forest as Kai appeared when the tornado dissipated.

"Arrow of Destruction," the man declared.

"Dead Shot," the woman echoed.

Both sensed the change in Kai as his pressure increased. "Fear," a demonic voice sounded. Before their attacks could hit their target, Kai disappeared.

BOOM!

The attacks met and canceled each other out, the force cracking the ground and sending waves of wind in every direction. They knew Kai had dodged the attack and started scanning the area.

The woman, holding a longer weapon, felt danger and let go of it, quickly drawing a smaller gun and firing beside her.

Bang! Ting!

Kai defended, but she couldn't see him. "What's going on?"

"Hahahahaha, good senses," Kai's voice echoed from everywhere.

The man appeared from a tree. "Lisa, do you know where he is?" Lisa, knowing the man lacked the ability to completely sense Kai, turned to tell him, only to see him stabbed through the heart by an unseen assailant.

Facing an opponent she couldn't see or sense, Lisa knew she was in trouble. Running away would give Kai the chance to strike, but staying meant certain death. As her friend's body fell from the tree, she ran. It wasn't wise, but it was her only option.

Kai appeared on the tree the man had stood on, his face pale. "Running out of mana, huh," he thought, watching the crazed woman flee for her life. "Defending against both of them consumed a lot of mana, and using that power took even more, even if it was just for a second," he thought, kneeling down.
