Moody clouds, chirping birds, loud crickets, and the light cool breeze running around the pack as they gathered round anxious for the safety of their Luna and a new member. The full moon is coming to place ,the moon goddess must have thought this through ,giving them a gift at the new moon. A timing has never been more perfect.
Kai stopped abruptly after pacing back and forth for at least an hour, facing the nurse as she ran out of the room.
"How is she?" He ran after the nurse but got no response, his effort of pushing through to follow her further,in vain.
Now he is back, repeating the circle of pacing, chasing a nurse and back to pacing.
He swore he heard a thunder strike, when last did it rain in the pack; the pack had basically been in drought if not for his excellent ability as an Alpha, so this is a good sign from the moon goddess, Right?. But his main focus was on his wife and their child. He needed to know that she was okay, that they were okay.
His wife had been in labor for about four days now; A normal werewolf birth was about two days, this one must be special.
Her screams tore through the entire building, shaking its core. The speed at which Kai ran to the birth room only stopping at the door, could not be matched. His wife's life is at stake and she just almost broke glasses with how loud she was, and his child too.
"Alpha, come with me"
Kai was stunned, the audacity of this man to take him away from his family. He took a quick frustrated look at the man, his long white coat with stethoscope draped around his neck and a long board like note in his hands. His blonde hair styled perfectly, slicked back so much so that no single strand stood out. His lips twitches under the scrutinizing gaze of his Alpha.
Doctor Andrew has been the doctor of the pack for of over a hundred and fifty years, even when the alpha's father was the alpha and well he knew genes could be passed on so he knew how to react in his presence.
Taking a step back he withdrew a pen from his pocket and handed it to Kai, in order to boycott his wrath, he had to choice but to let him do the signing here.
He placed the pen in Kai's hands as well as the note book indicating on it where he should sign.
Kai looked down at him, thanking his stars that he evaded murder today.
"How is she" He made no move to take the pen or the note and asked again.
He tried to look over Andrew's shoulder to het a better view of the room as Andrew assured him but it was as if they knew he was going to do that so the shifted her to another room.
"She is fine, Alpha. I just need you to sign here then we can arrange for you to see her." Immediately Kai heard that he snatched the book away from him and began signing, who would want to pass up that chance.
And with that Andrew took off inside again, closing the door behind him. There was a small wait and Kai began to get impatient again, just then He re-emerged again ushering Kai inside with him.
"Nurse Kim, could you show Alpha Kai his room" He asked his right hand nurse giving her a "quit that question " face when he saw the question in her face.
"Yes Doctor" He reply was timid as she faces Kai greeting and leading him to the room. "Alpha"
The room was dead silent as they walked in, Merida looked exhausted which was expected from someone who spent four days in labour. She looked weak, spent out, she didn't even move when they entered. She looked dead.
"Oh Love" Kai pushed aside the nurse with his shoulders and hurried down to his wife's bed. "Love." He took her palm into his, running his thumb over it. Back and front. The worried look on his face was evident, even in his words.
This was their first child and this scared the wit out of him, he made a mental note to talk to her about not having another. He would die before she experienced this again.
The twitching of her fingers after a while alerted him, he shuffled adjusting to focus on her. His forehead wrinkled with worry. Her eyes opened only to close back and then she squinted. He could see her eyes looking around frantically, searching, maybe she was confused as to where she was or she was looking for her baby.
"Wh- where" her voice groggy like a desert, "where is she?"
His daughter.
The main reason she went into labor and is in this condition.
They both faced the nurse, the same question running through their minds. They had stayed a bit longer here, by now the couple who had just given birth would be given their child. It was a worry they hadn't received theirs.
The look on the nurse's face made Kai's squeeze his brows. "What is the problem?, where is my baby?." His voice rose a bit and it looks like he shifted a bit to properly face the nurse while his hands were still on his wife's.
"Alpha, I think you should calm down." That was the biggest mistake she had ever made and she knew it. Telling the Alpha to calm down, what was she thinking?. The look on his face told her that she is doomed, done for, finished. No one and nothing can separate her from the mayhem that is coming her way.
And how calm his voice was as he spoke confirmed it.
"Get me Andrew" She scrambled out of the room knowing that her downfall was just being delayed because of the baby. On getting to Andrew, he just knew that something was off and she didn't have to pass the message before he took off to Merida's room.
"Alpha-"
"My child, where is she?"
He knew he fucked up, I mean he was just like the middle man. He really didn't have hands in this but still. Or maybe it was the moon goddess, or Nature. One of them messed up, real bad.
"Alpha, let's sit and discuss this" He emphasizes on "sit".
On the moons Kai could swear they where testing him, first Kim and now The doctor?.
The temperature suddenly rose in the room, Merida eyes widen, because she knew. The reflection of burning brown fall leaves shone on Andrew. He could swear he saw himself burning in the flames, in the eyes of Alpha Kai. Andrew has to act fast.
His Alpha is angry, eyes blazing as proof, and he knew delaying this further will result in his death.
"There were some complications during birth and-," Gagging sounds filled the room, Andrew lifted up from the floor and still Kai towered over him.
Kai broad hands fit perfectly around Andrew's neck, exacting enough pressure to choke him.
Andrew tried clawing away from his grip but it wasn't possible, he wasn't any where as strong as Kai. He managed to let out a "She's fine", and it made Kai loosened his hands a bit, allowing Andrew a bit of oxygen.
"And?"
Andrew motioned for Kai to let him out, adjusting his robe after Kai complied he continued.
"She's fine, the complication did not affect her that badly,She'll be fine"
The look on Kai's face wasn't comprehensive, didn't he understand, was he wanting more answers on his wife?. Andrew thought.
"But, the baby did not"
Shock.
He never thought he could experience one before. He always saw people receive the worst news calmly, or so they seemed. He would always wonder how someone could receive such a news and still remain calm, unmoving.
But now?, he understands, He has figured it out.
Shock.
He turned towards his wife, reaching her bed in slow strides.
"Do you think you can come with me love?."
Merida didn't know how to respond, she was dumbfounded. At least it wasn't her that broke the news. She couldn't do it, she couldn't even look him in the eye.
"She has to stay a while, we need to treat and stop the bleeding" Andrew broke the silence.
"Sure." This was the most unusual thing they had heard Kai say, Merida even.
He walked out of the room, without a word.
"He will handle it" Andrew told Merida when he saw how distressed her husband was as he walked out.
"He'll handle it fine."
