Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

"A scar marked in the heart"

"AHHHHHHHHHH!" She screamed again, but her mind remained trapped in a paralyzing shock, unable to comprehend the gruesome reality unfolding before her.

With an unnatural speed, the boy's head vanished in a gruesome explosion of blood and gore, splattering the girl in a spray of crimson.

Meanwhile, the shadowy form, devoid of remorse, tore the girl's head from her shoulders with its taloned hand. Another shadowy presence emerged from the forest, and more joined them as they silently gathered, a ghastly assembly of malevolence. Together, they moved as one, shrouded in darkness, with an unspeakable joy reminiscent of predators closing in on their prey.

Their unholy intentions were read quite easily on their grinning faces as they advanced relentlessly toward the unsuspecting festival grounds, where Ashley and Roan enjoyed themselves in a rare moment of bliss. Unbeknownst to all, dark forms, like harbingers of doom, slithered closer, encircling the festival area and the whole community with a sinister silence.

Back in the forest, Anser, consumed by an inexplicable dread, continued to trace the gruesome tracks that led him ever deeper into the forest. Each scene he encountered seemed to tug him further into the dark of the forest. His footsteps echoed In the eerie silence of the woods, a chilling reminder that he was alone.

Time bled away as he wandered the forest hoping to get to the bottom of this whole mystery. The gnawing sensation of something amiss began to claw at his consciousness. He'd been following these cryptic clues, and yet, they led him nowhere.

An unsettling realization crept over him, chilling his bones – he was being lured away, and he had shamefully fallen for it. As he contemplated whether to retreat, a sound, more terrible than the scent of death, sliced through the stillness of the forest. A bone-chilling howl pierced the air, echoing with malevolence. Dread gripped Anser's heart in an Icy vice, and a veil of fear fell upon him. The realization hit him like a tidal wave: the gruesome killings he had stumbled upon might have been nothing more than a grim distraction.

The true horror lay closer to home, in the direction of the town. Panic seized him, and he began to sprint back in a frenzied rush, a desperate race against time, praying that he wasn't already too late. Regret gnawed at him for not realizing the truth sooner, for allowing himself to be lured deeper into the forest's clutches, and for the horrors that might await him in the town he called home.

Meanwhile, in the town, the unholy entities had descended upon the once-jubilant festival grounds, their presence filled the air with a palpable aura of impending doom. Laughter and merriment, mere echoes of a fading joy, were swiftly extinguished by the anguished screams that now rent the night. The scent of fear hung heavy, like a noxious miasma. Roan, rooted in place, beheld the horror that unfolded before him, a symphony of savagery orchestrated by the denizens of darkness. These creatures, devoid of remorse, set upon the townsfolk with a predatory glee, flailing limbs from bodies with inhuman brutality.

That sweet old lady who always praised Roan for his bravery, screamed herself hoarse as she was torn limb from limb, Mr. Ari the owner of the local general goods store was chased by two figures who seemed to be toying with their food as he screamed and begged for his life, and sweet Maya, Roan's playmate was set upon by three of the beasts that ate her alive, slowly tearing the flesh from her bones as the poor girl screamed and screamed. All around the area, people could be seen being set upon by the creatures as they were killed in the most horrific manner possible, painting the town red.

In the midst of this unbridled chaos, Ashley clung to Roan, shielding his innocent eyes from the horrors playing out before them. Yet, the guttural cries and pained wails seeped into their very souls, leaving an unforgettable scar upon their hearts. The once-vibrant townsfolk, now reduced to trembling prey, some begged for mercy, but their pleas fell on deaf ears as one could see the sadistic delight that danced in the eyes of their tormentors. Some tried to fight back but it was futile, they stood no chance as they were savagely beaten, all the bone in their bodies brutally broken and then they are left to die slowly and in unimaginable agony.

Roan clung to his mother, his youthful innocence forever shattered, replaced by the haunting memories of a night when terror held dominion, and the beasts of the dark unveiled their true, bloodthirsty nature.Desperation clawed at Ashley's heart as she pulled Roan away from the horrific bloodshed. They managed to slip away from the ravenous frenzy of the beasts, their attention seemingly locked onto other hapless victims. But, as the wheel of fate spun, it became painfully clear that they hadn't gone unnoticed; a sinister presence shadowed their every step.

Ashley, clinging to a flicker of hope, guided Roan to a storage unit where a stockpile of meat was stored, praying that the pungent aroma would not attract the creatures. But as they drew nearer to the makeshift storage unit, her maternal instincts honed in on the chilling reality—they were being followed.

With a heart heavy as stone, Ashley led Roan inside the storage unit and swiftly secured the door, sealing her son within the darkness and safety of their temporary refuge. She resolved to divert the predator's attention away from her child and sprinted in a wild, erratic trajectory, attempting to confuse the relentless stalker.

Roan, hidden within the confines of the storage unit, watched through a small hole, his breath held in fear and sorrow as he saw his mother's desperate flight. A fearsome figure loomed in her path, a monster seeming nightmarish due to the blood covering its whole mouth. Ashley fought with all her might but found herself facing a creature far bigger and more powerful than she was. It was an unequal battle, and Roan's heart wrenched as he bore witness to the nightmarish spectacle.

The beast descended upon Ashley with a savage, merciless brutality, clawing and biting in a frenzy of violence. Roan's eyes filled with tears and rage as he saw his mother being torn apart, his small voice stifled by the weight of his emotions as they battled within him, one wanting immediately run outside and save his mother and another so afraid that it wanted to hide, as he watched the gruesome fate that befell his beloved mother. The night had turned to a grotesque theater of despair, and Roan was forever marked by the harrowing vision of his mother's sacrifice. Tears kept running down his cheeks as he found it more difficult to hold his breath and remain silent. The creature could smell the presence of another prey, the heartbeat of its prey kept calling out to it. It ventured towards the storage unit and noticed a crack..the hole from which Roan was watching. It gnawed but as if by impulse, it stopped and turned back to join its colleagues.
