Whips in the old age were used to punish criminals and slaves, a whiplash is said to be so deadly that it takes off flesh from the body with one hit. But, Fidel wasn't a normal human or an Aurian, but the same could be said about Ariel's whip. It was no ordinary whip, it was capable of slashing open mountains with one strike.
The whip took a layer of flesh from Fidel's body, but he didn't bleed as the Contractor had told him that they had five layers of flesh that covered their blood vanes. Ariel struck again and then again, in three hits he was able to penetrate four layers of flesh and was about one layer away from sensing his blood.
