As Horyu walked towards his home, his thoughts were still clouded by the day's grim task. The fading light of the day cast long shadows, mirroring the somber mood that had settled over him. He was deep in thought when Ino's voice broke his reverie.
"Please follow me," she said, her tone lacking its usual vivacity. Her face, typically animated and lively, now bore a look of sadness, a stark contrast to the Ino he knew. Horyu, sensing the gravity of her request, followed without a word.
They walked in silence to a secluded creek. The serene setting, with its gently flowing water and rustling leaves, seemed a world away from the harsh realities they had just faced. Ino sat down, her gaze fixed on the water, lost in thought as she watched the leaves float by and the trees' reflections dance on the surface.
Horyu stood beside her, respecting her silence, understanding that some moments required no words, just presence. The minutes ticked by, marked only by the soft sounds of nature around them.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Ino spoke. "Thank you," she said softly, breaking the silence. Her voice was tinged with a mixture of gratitude and sorrow.
Horyu merely nodded, acknowledging her thanks. He understood she was referring to his advice about choosing the aggressive bunny. It had been a calculated suggestion, one meant to spare her the deeper anguish of forming a bond only to break it cruelly.
Ino continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "I couldn't bond with it. No matter what I did, it was aggressive and would never allow me to come close. It hated me. It didn't eat or drink anything I offered." Her words trailed off, laden with unspoken emotions.
Horyu remained silent, his expression stoic yet attentive, giving her the space to articulate her thoughts.
Ino turned to face him, her eyes reflecting her internal struggle. "Still, I felt terrible killing it. If I—if I bonded, I don't know how I would feel," she confessed, her voice cracking slightly.
Horyu's response was measured, his tone even. "It's a cruel task, designed to break us. To make us question ourselves and never orders. But remember, it's also a test of our resolve as shinobi."
Ino looked at him, her eyes searching for some understanding, some reassurance. "But why? Why do we have to go through this?"
Horyu's gaze returned to the creek, watching the water flow past. "In the shinobi world, we're often faced with decisions where there's no right answer. Decisions that haunt us. This test, as harsh as it is, prepares us for those moments."
Ino sighed, a sense of resignation in her posture. "I understand, but it doesn't make it any easier."
Horyu turned to her, his voice firm yet devoid of harshness. "No, it doesn't. But it's part of our path. A path we chose."
Ino nodded slowly, absorbing his words. "I guess you're right. It's just hard to accept."
She looked at him, her face a mix of curiosity and mild frustration. "Do you have any idea what the next test might be?" Ino asked, clearly assuming that Horyu had some inside information. Horyu, well aware of the next test due to his System but always cautious not to reveal its existence, shook his head.
Horyu shook his head, his expression unchanging. "All I can do is make educated guesses," he said calmly. "Ibiki mentioned these bunnies are adept at smelling blood. That might be a hint. Tomorrow's test could involve tracking or hunting. As for what we'll be hunting, I can't say."
Ino nodded, seeming to accept his explanation, as she looked at him with a flush. "Thanks again, Horyu," she said, her tone softening a bit.
Horyu stood up, ready to leave. "You're welcome," he replied curtly before turning to walk away. His mind was already racing with thoughts about the upcoming challenges and how best to prepare his team.
Ino watched his retreating figure, a mix of emotions flickering across her face, her thoughts a whirlwind. 'Such a boar,' she thought, a hint of annoyance creeping into her mind. 'He didn't even offer to walk me home. Wait, I'm the boar. No, he is. I'm a cute piggy, not a boar.'
As Horyu walked back to his home, his mind was not on Ino's mixed signals but rather on the tasks ahead. The first stage of the Blood Test had been disturbing, but he knew the challenges would only deescalate.
To him, hunting and killing bandits were far simpler tasks than bonding with an innocent animal, only to be ordered to kill it later. The psychological warfare of the test had left a bitter taste in Horyu's mouth as he returned home. In the solitude of his backyard, he engaged in a rigorous training session, pushing his body and mind to their limits.
Under the cloak of night, Horyu's movements were a blur, a symphony of precision and power. His training was intense, each motion honed through countless repetitions. His focus was unwavering, driven by a deep-seated determination to be prepared for any challenge.
After hours of relentless practice, Horyu finally ceased his physical exertions and transitioned into meditation. The world around him faded away as he delved into the depths of his mind, exploring and fortifying his mental resilience. He was a fortress, impervious to external disturbances, a testament to his unwavering discipline.
As dawn approached, Horyu emerged from his meditative state, his mind clear and focused. He checked his System interface, noting the significant progress he had made overnight.

Arriving at the meeting point, Horyu's gaze swept over his classmates. Ino was already there, her usual vivacity dimmed. Sasuke and Sakura sat together on a rock, but even Sakura's usual chatter was absent, her puffy eyes indicating a sleepless night. Kiba was a picture of misery, slumped against a wall with Akamaru on his lap, his face a complex canvas of anger and pain.
Horyu chose a quiet spot, his own expression betraying none of his inner thoughts. He was about to settle into his own contemplations when Ino approached him. Her steps were hesitant, her usual confidence replaced by a palpable uncertainty.
"Horyu," she began, her voice a shadow of its usual perkiness. "I... I just wanted to say thanks, again. For yesterday, I mean."
Horyu glanced at her, an eyebrow raised slightly. "You don't need to thank me, Ino. It was just a practical suggestion."
Ino bit her lip, looking down at her feet. "I know, but... it still helped. I just wish the others had known too."
Horyu shrugged nonchalantly. He couldn't care less about others.
