An emergency meeting, chaired by General Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the American Army, was convened in the multifunctional conference room of the Pentagon.
In addition to Dempsey seated at the head of the table, all who had assembled were top-ranking military officers in the American Army and the President's most important military advisors, plus members of the Scientific Committee.
Included were Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Navy Admiral James Winnefeld, Army Chief of Staff General Raymond Odierno, Navy Command Chief Admiral Jonathan Greenert, Air Force Chief of Staff General Norton Schwartz, Marine Corps Commander General James Amos, and Commanders from various continental regions.
