Falling snow vehicles were a common enough occurrence. Everyone worked methodically to unhitch the metal cables, get the vehicle out of the snow, and then reattach the cables. Thus, the mishap was resolved.
"That's it done. Let's move on."
They had planned to cover around fifty kilometers that day. The recent, raging snowstorm had held them back and they had covered less than twenty-five kilometers; there was still half of the journey to complete.
"Mike, do you hear anything?"
Having just put his tools away, Cross's ears pricked up. He looked up in confusion, his gaze directed towards the desolate horizon.
"Sounds? What sounds?"
Following Cross' line of sight, all Mike could see was an endless stretch of snow.
"You didn't hear it?"
Cross strained, the sound growing louder to his ears, causing a look of surprise to cross his face. "Isn't the sound getting louder?"
"Eh, there actually is a sound …"
As time went on, even Mike's duller hearing picked up these strange noises.
