On the clear morning of May 16th, a heartening piece of news rapidly spread across the nation: More than 800 soldiers and officers had bravely pressed into Beichuan and successfully demolished the Tangjia Mountain Barrier Lake, which had just been designated as "Risk Level One" by the state.
