St. Peter's Square, a plaza that encapsulates the essence of various eras, can accommodate 500,000 people. Located at the easternmost point of the Vatican, it is famous for the St. Peter's Cathedral at its forefront and serves as the Roman Church's venue for large-scale religious events.
The construction of the square took eleven years (1656ā1667) and was personally supervised by the renowned architect Bernini. The square is surrounded by four rows of a total of 284 Doric columns, with 140 statues of saints above them. In the center stands a gigantic column, brought from Egypt in the year 40 AD, measuring 25.5 meters in height and weighing 320 tons.
