The weather was changing.
Since last night, the skies over New York had been shrouded in dark clouds, and the evening breeze carried a chill. Although the sun had valiantly made an appearance in the morning, by nine o'clock, a storm had suddenly assaulted New York, casting the entire sky into a hazy gray.
It had rained in New York since the start of summer, but a downpour of this magnitude was unprecedented for the season.
In just half an hour, the streets and alleys of New York were all awash, and cars could be seen driving through the waterlogged roads everywhere.
"Damn it, those goddamn rulers, can't they make the city's drainage system any better?" Drivers forced to navigate the streets in the rain cursed, facing roads that resembled streams.
In reality, as the largest metropolis in the world, New York's drainage system was already quite good; if it weren't, many of the buildings situated on low ground would have been submerged.
