Inside the Starbucks Cafe on Sakura Street, Li Huai and Ling Fei were seated facing each other.
Li Huai had tried coffee before, but even with added sugar, it tasted like Chinese medicine to him. Therefore, he ordered a cup of plain boiled water.
"Officer Ling, you said you had something to tell me. Let's hear it now," Li Huai said.
"You're calling me Officer Ling again! How many times have I told you? You can call me sister or by my name. Why can't you remember this?" Ling Fei pouted, looking very much like a little woman.
"Uh!" Li Huai scratched his head. It was actually Ling Fei who had asked him to call her Officer Ling earlier, and now she was asking him to change his address. Women, he thought, were inscrutable.
"You're not willing?" Ling Fei sipped her coffee delicately. A slight blush spread across her youthful face.
"No, Ling Fei, I prefer your old self."
"What was my old self like?"
"The stern and fierce type, certainly not what you are now."
