The visit to the bank did not go smoothly. Basil Jaak and Jessica Flack visited six or seven banks in a row, but they only managed to meet with the leaders of two. It quickly became clear, even to a fool, that those banks had no intention of lending them any money.
By the time they exited the last bank, darkness had fully set in.
Basil Jaak, noticing Jessica Flack's furrowed brows, wanted to ask her when they could head home, but what came out of his mouth instead was, "Ms. Flack, which bank should we visit next?"
Jessica Flack looked surprised, but quickly shook her head and laughed, "There's no need. We've reached this point. Even if we tried begging them, they wouldn't pity us. This is the business world. It is cruel and indifferent."
Basil Jaak then offered, "Should I take you home?"
Jessica Flack seemed not to hear him and suddenly asked, "Basil Jaak, isn't today the Winter Solstice?"
"Uh…" Basil Jaak looked down at the date on his phone and nodded, "It does seem so!"
