When the Ghost City toll booth appeared in front of him, Basil Jaak slapped his forehead, repeatedly asking himself, did he really travel thousands of miles from Rong City just on a point of pride?
Basil Jaak suddenly realized that all the foolish things he had mocked lovers for doing before were now mercilessly appearing in his own life. He wanted to laugh, yet he couldn't.
"Sir, your card." The toll booth attendant interrupted Basil Jaak's contemplation.
Coming back to his senses, Basil Jaak handed the toll card and fee to the attendant and drove towards Ghost City.
Basil Jaak shouldn't feel unfamiliar with Ghost City, as he visited the place with Lydia White not long ago. Yet the nightfall above and the traffic flow in front of him made him feel somewhat strange.
He shook his head heavily, followed the navigation instructions, weaved through the traffic, and finally parked the car at the Crescent Bay Hotel where Xenia Wendleton was staying.
