All preparations complete, the trio bid farewell to those who had accompanied them to the station and boarded the train bound for Shanghai. Thanks to someone influential, they managed a sleeper carriage for the trip, including a transfer in Beijing.
Su Xiaowan was experienced when it came to travel. She had an endless supply of food that she brought along, making sure she had a comprehensive variety of snacks. Most of what she brought, like cucumber, tomatoes, and honeydew, were fruits due to her knowledge that traveling by train tends to increase body heat, suppress appetite, and hinder digestion. Eating fruits kept them more lively.
