After much persuasion, Wan Qi finally let go of Gu Chen's hand.
Gu Chen turned around and looked into her eyes seriously, saying with great solemnity, "Wan Qi, a lot has changed over these three years. You've changed, and so have I."
Wan Qi shook her head, "No, I haven't. I haven't changed. Chen, I had no choice back then. You know that if you could have helped me, helped my family at that time, I wouldn't have had to struggle alone in a foreign land for these three years. You don't know what I've been through. The only thing that kept me going was you."
"Chen, you don't know how desperate I was. That night, in the pouring rain, I stood at your doorstep, calling your name over and over again. But why didn't you come out, why? If you had come out to see me, how could we have been apart for so many years? How could I have become someone everyone despises?"
Upon reaching a point of sorrow, Wan Qi started crying bitterly again.
"I never despised you," said Gu Chen.
