Chapter 15 - Chapter 15: Here's this Hot Potato for you.

It was still dark, and Wang Cuihua groggily got out of bed.

A big iron pot was steaming, and the aroma of cooked rice was wafting out. Suizi was tying her apron and bustling about.

The rice was ready, and the poultry had been fed.

Wang Cuihua thought Suizi was amazingly proficient, putting the house in order both inside and out.

"You are pregnant, you should sleep more. Tiegen and I can handle the chores."

"I've had enough sleep."

Indeed, she had.

Thinking about that villain who carried her into the room yesterday, Suizi's cheeks flushed.

That man was not well-behaved while he slept.

His leg twisted around hers, and his hand kept roaming—bah.

With such a sketchy fellow next to her, it would be strange if she could sleep soundly.

"I'm going to visit the village chief in a bit. I promised him cornbread yesterday. He got injured because of our family matters and I feel somewhat remorseful."

"That old fox won't help unless there's something in it for him. He says he's doing it for you, but isn't it really for his son? You don't need to owe him anything."

Despite Wang Cuihua's words, she pulled out two one-yuan bills from her pocket and handed them to Suizi.

"Don't just take the cornbread, buy a can of food too."

Yu Jingting came out from the house humming a tune, his cotton coat unbuttoned, revealing the prominent collarbone where his fingernails scratched deeply.

Suizi went over to help him button up, fearing that her mother-in-law would notice something.

"You go with Suizi to see the village chief, the team accountant has been transferred, and Suizi is educated, let her take over."

While his mother was turned away, Yu Jingting bent down to quickly plant a kiss on Suizi's face. So soft.

"The production team will be disbanded sooner or later. It doesn't make a lot of sense to curry favor with them."

"Did you hear some rumors?" Wang Cuihua asked.

"Several villages around have held meetings, and our production team hasn't done anything yet."

"So, other villages agree on disbanding the production team?"

"It's bound to happen. In a month or two, our village will also hold a meeting."

Listening to this mother-and-son's conversation, Suizi's admiration for Jingting increased a bit.

He was often on the go, rarely stayed in the village, but he was well informed and had a good head on his shoulders. His analysis was extremely accurate; the production team would indeed disband next year.

"Take care of your pregnancy, your man will earn the money." Yu Jingting tried to get a feel, but Suizi swatted his hand away.

Suizi gave him a warning look, his mother-in-law was right there.

Unaware as Wang Cuihua served the rice, Yu Jingting pulled her over, pinched her waist, and rubbed against her. As Wang Cuihua turned around, he immediately transformed into a gentleman, his face radiant as the moon on a clear night.

"I'm off to do something important, you be a good girl at home."

Suizi spat inwardly; the naughtiest person at home had the audacity to tell her to behave!

Yu Jingting went back into the house, returned with a cloth bag, gave Suizi another feel, and left humming a tune.

"Where are you off gallivanting now? Eat your meal before you go!"

He didn't even turn to respond, making Wang Cuihua angry and stomping her foot while cursing.

"He's always running wild, never does anything serious all day!"

Suizi used to think the same as her mother-in-law, considering him a layabout who never stayed in one place.

Now, she didn't think so. Knowing he was making money to support the family was good. As for his lecherous behavior... she could endure it.

Suizi stood outside the village chief's courtyard, looking through the window.

There was an iron pan on the stove and the village chief was sitting on a small stool, holding a bottle of wine and tending to the fire.

It seemed he was roasting potatoes. If he could eat roasted potatoes, it meant that his injury was not severe. Suizi noted this in her mind.

"Sir, are you home?" Suizi shouted.

"I'm here." The village chief replied without showing himself.

In the village, if someone didn't greet their guest upon arrival, it was a clear sign of a lukewarm reception.

Suizi entered the house and put the canned food and snacks on the kang bed. The village chief gave them a glance and his expression softened a bit.

Wang Cuihua only asked Suizi to buy a can of food, but Suizi put in some extra money and got a few more items.

"Why bring so much stuff when you visit?" The village chief stroked the gifts, his face brightening considerably.

"It's because of me that you got hurt, uncle. I feel guilty about it."

The village chief gave a satisfied smile, only then did he sincerely invite Suizi to sit down.

With the gifts delivered properly, the conversation became much easier.

The village chief started with a few pleasantries, then talked about the disposal of Lun Lamei, the Chen Family had people coming in the morning, hoping to make a big issue small. They agreed to Suizi's suggestion of giving work points, only asking not to send Lun Lamei away.

The village chief was feeling annoyed.

Chen Kaide came with the old village chief. The old chief was a distant relative of the Chen Family and he couldn't ignore this favor. Keeping Lun Lamei in the village, regardless of whether Suizi felt disgust, left the chief in real frustration.

He was drinking to ease his annoyance when Suizi arrived.

"Uncle, you don't need to be upset for me. As for my mother-in-law, let it be. If Lun Lamei can't stay in Yang Village, then just turn a blind eye to whatever happens later."

Hearing the underlying meaning in Suizi's words, the village chief wondered whether the mother and daughter of Yu Family were planning to deal with Lun Lamei. If they could drive her away, he would be more than happy to cooperate.

"Has your mother-in-law chosen a date when she would be in bad luck?"

"It's just a few days from now. She's definitely in for bad luck, my mother-in-law said, if there's no blood, then she is just leaving Yang Village."

The village chief saw innocent Suizi relaying a serious message and sighed. How did such an honest child end up in the wolf's den of Yu Family?

Little did the village chief know that Suizi was planning revenge all by herself.

No one would believe that a girl who looks like her could be so cunning and astute.

On hearing that Lun Lamei was going to be kicked out, the village chief felt greatly relieved.

"Suizi, the accountant of our production team has left, would you like to take that place?"

"Thank you, uncle, but I don't want to be an accountant, I would like to teach at the village primary school instead. My sister-in-law's homeroom teacher went home to have a child, so I can replace her for a few months."

"What?!!" The village chief was taken aback.

A technical secondary school graduate teaching in primary school, even though that's like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut?!

"The village would certainly approve it, but would your mother-in-law agree?" The village chief felt that such a "lack of ambition" could not have been Wang Cuihua's idea.

"Just a few months of substitution, there is no problem from my mother-in-law – doesn't the substitute teaching fee pay really well?"

"Yes, but—" When you're done with the substitution, there may not be a place left for you in the village's accounting!

The village chief was close to blurting this out for the sake of the Sticky Rice Cake and canned food.

Suizi innocently replied: "In our village, I'm not the only one with a secondary school education."

Aside from her, there was also Li Youcai.

"Suizi, you go back and discuss this with your mother-in-law." The village chief wished Suizi was his own daughter. If she was, he would definitely shake sense into her.

This was not the time for modesty or to let others go first; a missed opportunity could lead to lifelong regret!

Suizi had her plans laid out. Kong Rong let others have the pears, but what she was offering was a hot potato.

Leaving the village chief's house, Suizi headed home, soon passing Li Youcai's courtyard.

Suizi bent down, picked up a rock, and threw it at Li Youcai's dog.

The dog, tied up, barked loudly.

At the sound, Li Youcai lifted his head to see the woman of his dreams just outside his house.

"Suizi! Wait up!" Li Youcai rushed out of his house.

When she saw this low-quality man, Suizi gritted her teeth, resisting the impulse to kick him.

The show was just about to begin.
