It all started with the household closest to the corpses; they heard knocking at their door.
They thought someone had come looking for them and opened the door.
To their horror, it was the old man of the house who had died.
The old man's body had decayed to black, with bones protruding from his face. Bathed in moonlight, he looked like a fierce ghost claiming lives, scaring the family terribly.
Fortunately, one of them was quick to react. They slammed the door shut before those withered branches of hands could grasp them, then bolted it. Otherwise, the consequences would've been unimaginable.
The knocking continued all night long without pause.
That night, not everyone was as astute as this family to keep the corpses out. Many more villagers let the dead into their homes, leading to tragedy.
The chaos only ceased when the sun rose the next morning.
