Chapter 20 - Chapter 20

Third Person's POV

Time all about Haya :)

It was a warm morning. The heat from the sun passed through the sealed metal window, slowly lighting up the dark spaces of the room.

The morning breeze blew off soothing tingles, caressing the sleepy souls comfortably cuddled underneath an enormous and soft mattress.

"Hey, my lovely, hard-headed... " Avin cheerfully entered a spacious, dark room full of various weird things that clattered and hung everywhere, but was dumbfounded to find out the person she was looking for was nowhere to be found.

"THAT GIRL!" Avin gritted her teeth and marched out of the messy room.

She went straight to the place she thought her cousin would surely be at this time of day.

"Revi! Where is Haya?" Avin panted upon entering a small room reeking of metallic, foul smells from different substances boiling in tubes of various shapes and sizes lined up on a long table.

On the walls, numerous pieces of unknown stuff that Revi and Haya were working on were hanging. These were the things they had collected from human territories after an Encounter.

"I don't know." He responded.

"You'll speak or you'll die."

"As if you can. You can't possibly lay a hand on me!" Revi insultingly looked at Avin.

"Who says I'll be the one to kill you?"

Revi's face turned pale.

"Don't you dare!"

"Oh, I will. If Haya learns about your feelings for her that you kept for a very long time, you'll be dead." Avin threatened Revi.

"She's at it again!" Revi surrendered.

"I knew it! Ok! Your secrets are safe with me. You can count on me!" Avin bade her goodbye before rushing to the training area.

While running, she took a glance beside her. Outside the enormous windows, the sun was starting to light up the sky.

"HAYA!" Avin yelled as her gaze caught her cousin knocking out the last man on guard inside the training room.

"Oh! Hi Avin." Haya smirked while walking towards a ladder leaning on a wall and started climbing it.

"Don't you just say hi to me? You better not be doing what I think you are planning." Avin approached Haya with heavy steps.

"Too late!" Haya yelled back before a huge screw popped out and the window swung open, letting the strong, cold wind blow into the room.

"STOP! Come down now." Avin ordered. "That height, I'm telling you, will not give you a chance to live in case you fall."

"If I fall! See you later." Haya giggled before stepping out of the window, struggling with the strength of the wind.

"HAYA!" Avin's voice echoed like a tremor had hit her.

Helpless and all, Avin climbed after Haya.

"Oh gosh! If I die, I'll die pretty. But with such height, I doubt someone could ever recognize me when I hit the ground." Avin mumbled while looking down, clinging dearly to the hilt of the window Haya had just broken.

A cold shiver crept through her as the soles of her feet touched the stone bricks of the gigantic, old, sturdy castle-like structure.

Ahead, Haya was tiptoeing along the ridge of the highest part of the roof.

Avin grieved at the terrifying sight.

"I thought I was dying!" Avin trembled, desperately crawling in fear as she reached the peek. Haya was standing mesmerized by the view around her.

"This is life, Avin!" Haya was thrilled while she extended her arms above the low-lying clouds, almost touching the palms of her hands.

Haya always loved the color of the sky at dawn and dusk.

"You wish!" Avin spoke out of breath. "You exactly know that when that sun comes out, there will be no more peace. When will you ever stop?"

"When I get to stop the war and I do not have to wake up from gunfire anymore," Haya smiled bitterly. "Why did you follow me anyway?"

"To congratulate you, silly. You age once again."

"Thank you. But you know what? Humans call their age day their birthday. They are greeted by the word happy birthday. Ok, I'm leaving!"

"Oh no, you don't! You're coming with me to our class."

"Maybe next time. I have to fetch some things for tonight's celebration!" Haya took a few steps back, then ran and jumped off the roof.

"HAYA!" Avin freaked out but was shocked when something came out of Haya's bag and pulled her up, making her look like she was flying.

"IT WORKED!" Haya assured Avin, and she propelled herself swiftly in the air.

Avin broke down crying.

"What if it didn't work? Be careful and don't get yourself drawn too much to human ways."

***

"Here we go!" Haya exclaimed as her left foot touched the ground.

She held the gun she and Revi had just finished utilizing based on her demands and convenience.

"Please work." She whispered.

[gunfire's]

[shouting]

[splashes of blood]

[body slamming on the ground]

[more shouting and grunting]

[more gunfire's]

Exciting. Exhilarating. Terrifying. But then, mornings would always be great, even if things hadn't been the same as before.

[heavy footsteps running]

[glass door closing]

[panting in exhaustion]

"Oooh yeah! I survived!"

And going all through those shits so that she could give herself an 'all-get-whatever-you-want' shopping spree for free. She believed; she deserves it.

"I'll get these!"

"I'll get that!"

"Oooh, this suits me."

"My gosh, I look pretty with this."

"With these bloodstains, I can't get a perfect view of how my skin looks with this dress on. But anyways, I'm still beautiful."

"I think that's it for now. I'll just come back and pick up new stuff again when I get bored."

[glass door unlocking]

[inhale]

[exhale]

[glass door opening]

[shouting]

[gun fires]

[more gunfire]

Struggling, living, and dying became one thing. Either you live; it will always feel like dying, or someone dies, so others will live.

Whatever. The world had only one rule, just kill. It had been going on for quite some time. It was as if each day was an unending war just to survive.

All these started because of an error.

[password typing]

[voice confirmation]

[security unlocking]

[metal doors opening]

[deep sigh]

"Haya! To Chastise!" A woman in her late ages snarled in so much frustration.

"Yes, Aunt."

As always.

She followed her aunt, dropped the bag along the way to a secret compartment, and went straight to the Chastise room.

Haya walked into a huge room, and as the gigantic wooden double door closed, a lightning strike hit Haya.

"Oh, here we go again." Haya hissed with pain in her eyes.
