Chapter 33 - Episode(31)

Episode(31): A goal to work towards!

SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(31)

20 minutes later-

Akane was laying on the ground, her chest heaved up and down causing her breast to move along with her breathing. Her beautiful face was pale as she gasped desperately for air.

She couldn't even move. After all that training she just wanted to lay there until the next day came before moving again.

Turning her head, she saw Mavis putting on her armor as she prepared to leave. As a military commander, aside from being Akane's mentor she also had other duties to attend to as well.

[In the end I never even managed to scratch you huh?]

Akane said in a dejected tone. She sat up after a fierce struggle with her jelly like muscles and looked at Mavis in awe and helplessness.

This person was way too strong. Would there even be a day that she could actually fight against this person and win? She highly doubted it.

Mavis turned around and saw Akane's expression. She was stunned for a moment before chuckling slightly.

[Fufu, cheer up. It's only been a month since you came to this world after all and you are only level 10 so this much improvement in one month can be seen as amazing]

Mavis was right, in this world it would normally take an ordinary person a few months or even a year to go from level one to five let alone reaching level 10 in just a month. If everyone in this world had such amazing talent and ability the world would have been overrun with experts long ago.

Only the heroes had this ability and to be honest, even Mavis was slightly jealous of how quickly the heroes could level up.

It took her five months to reach level ten back when she first started training and that was considered to be a monstrous genius. So what were these heroes?

But after spending time with Akane, she no longer cared about it and just decided to develop herself and that was the best way to prove she was no less than these heroes.

Akane saw the sincerity in Mavis's eyes and couldn't arguer. She could only sigh.

[If you say so...but I don't really see much change]

After a month of constantly raiding dungeons over and over, all Akane had to show for it was just the level 10 hanging in her status bar. Although she worked the hardest amongst the heroes, she wasn't even close to being the fasted to level up so her depression couldn't be helped.

The hero with the highest level at the moment was, of course the hero chose by the Goddess of swords, Renji. His level was already 20 which made him the highest leveled summoned hero out of all of the heroes.

Of course if he worked hard Akane wouldn't feel much depression, however all he ever did was go out and wave his sword while flexing his strength, kill a few monsters and go back to indulge in his debauchery with god knows how many women.

In short, he barely does anything aside from showing off and being a playboy.

Akane couldn't accept that he grew so strong so fast, however with his holy sword it was true that even monster two times his strength wouldn't be much of a struggle for him at all.

'With that cheat like sword he just needs to kill high leveled monster and not work hard at all…while the rest of us..'

She sighed as she recalled Renji's strength when he faced the gargoyle back in the village. Although she hated it, the fact that he was the strongest couldn't be denied. The world was just so unfair.

[Still, I was surprised to hear that the gargoyle thing was a normal demon even with that strength...are they all that strong?]

Akane placed the matter to the back of her head. At any rate, she just needed to make sure that her strength could support her survival in this world with a high death ratio. So long as she could live then the matter of gaining strength would naturally come to her after.

She was more interested in the fact that even with its strength, the gargoyle was still just a normal foot soldier.

[Yes...]

Mavis nodded solemnly. She wasn't afraid to tell Akane since even if she ran she would still need to participate in the battle against demons if she was still on the continent. Rather it was better for her to know her enemies strength so she knew what she was going to be up against.

[Elite demons are even stronger than the gargoyle soldier you faced in the village]

She sighed helplessly and said.

[That was just a scout and didn't have much battle prowess]

These words stunned Akane and she felt a chill. That thing didn't have battle prowess? It took fireballs like they were just tickling its skin.

If not for the spear wielding girl that beat it half to death and Renji's holy sword none of them would have been able to damage that thing.

'But it didn't have battle prowess?'

Mavis naturally saw Akane's expression but she didn't console it. She would need to know sooner or later and it was better sooner than later when she died because she mistook the opponent's strength.

[You have the sub-commanders who work directly under the demon king and they are level 40 and above. The elite commander's that are level 60 and above and then you have the demon Generals who are almost level 80]

[Not to mention that even when two people are at the same level it doesn't represent how much strength and speed they have, in the end it's all down to their starting point]

Demons have abnormal strength and strong constitutions from birth and thus even at level one they are able to defeat level eight or ten monsters. Elves have a huge supply of magical energy, dwarves are abnormally good with their hands and so on and so forth.

Only humans are born ordinary so their starting point is a lot lower than the other races. Especially when compared to demons that have abnormal strength, speed and magical energy from birth all the other races pale in comparison.

[And even if we humans train, we still won't have the same starting point as other races]

She couldn't help but sigh as she thought about the disparity in strength.

Akane raised an eyebrow.

[If it's such an unfair match then, won't we just end up losing in the end?]

If it was really about the starting point, then compared to the humans that had trained to get ahead so they wouldn't be left behind by other races then how would they who came from a peaceful world with weak bodies even be able to compare?

Wouldn't they just all be fodder on the battlefield?

Mavis shook her head.

[Normally your starting points would be lower than other who trained before leveling up at level one, however with the blessings of the gods the stat attribute increase that you heroes receive is larger than the norm of this world]

Mavis thought for a moment before she looked into Akane's eyes and continued.

[Say for example the norm was that each stat value, strength, speed, wisdom, magic and so on and so forth would only increase by five for ordinary people. With the blessing of the gods you heroes stat value would be doubled or tripled, in any case your starting point wouldn't matter much]

Akane thought about it and nodded. It made sense. As heroes they had to have had something special for others to so confidently claim that they can defeat the demons. Otherwise even if they were to be on the same level as the demon king that person could probably just swing a hand and flatten them like pancakes.

'Come to think of it'

Ever since they heard of the demon king once they never got any information about him after that. Akane didn't mind because she was so focused on gaining more power but she was curious now.

[If the scouts are so strong, how strong is the demon king?]

After a while, Akane raised her gaze and asked hesitantly.

Although she wanted to know what goal she should reach towards, she was scared the goal would be too high for her to achieve with her strength and potential.

It's like setting a goal to by the most expensive sports car even though you're broke and have numerous debts to pay off.

Mavis didn't know why Akane was asking about the demon king but seeing that she really wanted to know she thought about it seriously.

[No one has ever seen the demon king and those that have faced the demon king never came back alive]

She mumbled. Akane overheard her mumbling but thought nothing of it. If there were people who faced the demon king and returned alive then why would they need the heroes? Just foster a great hero from the people in this world!

So she didn't find it strange that everyone who went face to face with the demon king ceased to exist. But the next words she heard stunned her into silence.

[I can only speculate, but the highest level to ever face the demon king was at the least level 95 so while I can't confidently say, the demon king should at the least be above level one hundred]

'Huh? Level 95 and they still died?!'

Akane's eyes went blank almost instantly.

'Hehe, I see. Were all gonna die'

It was like she could taste the embrace of death calling her to the afterlife.

If even a level 95 was killed like a bug then what about them who weren't even level thirty yet? Wouldn't the demon king just killed them with a disdainful gaze?

Akane released a long sigh.

Mavis laughed awkwardly realizing that Akane's fighting spirit had dimmed slightly.

[Well don't worry so much, if you all train hard enough and level up as you're doing now, you will be able to take on monsters of that level and higher without much trouble in the future]

[You can say as much, your level 35, aren't you? Not to mention I hear you can fight and kill monster of level 40 without much struggle! When will the time even come when I can insta-kill a gremlin?]

She felt depressed. Wasn't the blessing of the Gods supposed to be strong? Then why could she only take on monsters that were level 13? If she dared to stand before a level 14 monster she would be asking for death.

On the other hand, Mavis was a beauty and she was even rated in the top four among the beauties of the capital.

Just one year after joining the royal guards she was promoted to a commander because her strength proved itself as she made countless achievements. Due to this, no one could go against her rise in the ranks even if she was just a woman.

'She was truly a role model for women'

Akane squealed in her heart. Mavis shook her head.
