Chapter 13 - Deity? Or deityfied?

Octavian stood rooted to the spot, his mind reeling as he attempted to process the sheer impossibility of the being before him. It was as if reality itself had bent and warped, giving birth to something that defied all logic and reason. The creature, if one could even call it that, loomed impossibly large, its form shrouded in a darkness so absolute it seemed to devour the very light around it.

His heart thundered in his chest, each beat a desperate attempt to break free from the confines of his ribcage. Yet, even as terror threatened to overwhelm him, Octavian found an unexpected well of strength deep within. He stood firm, his legs trembling but refusing to buckle beneath the weight of this cosmic encounter.

The creature's numerous eyes, each as vast and unfathomable as the depths of space, regarded him with an intensity that seemed to pierce through flesh and bone, peering directly into the very essence of his being. Octavian felt laid bare, every thought and memory exposed to this enigmatic entity's gaze.

When it spoke, the words reverberated through the air, carrying a weight that seemed to bend reality itself. "Seed code Ilagra, handle Octavian."

In that instant, the world around them twisted and warped, the creature's form flowing like liquid shadow. Octavian watched, mesmerized and horrified, as it reshaped itself into something more familiar, yet no less otherworldly. The being now stood before him in a form reminiscent of humanity, albeit with striking differences that served as a stark reminder of its true nature.

Six arms extended from its sides, reminiscent of the Hindu deity Vishnu, each limb moving with a grace that seemed both natural and impossible. Flowing locks of hair cascaded down its back, framing a face of ethereal beauty. The figure was adorned in regal attire that spoke of nobility beyond human comprehension, its apparent gender presenting as female.

"I have been observing you for many years now, Demi-human," the being stated, its voice carrying an authority that demanded respect and attention. The very air around them seemed to vibrate with each syllable, as if the fabric of reality itself acknowledged the power of this entity.

Octavian opened his mouth to speak, a torrent of questions threatening to spill forth, but the being continued before he could utter a sound.

"You don't know what I am, nor will I divulge this information. For it is not important. We have more pressing matters to discuss."

A chill ran down Octavian's spine as he realized the creature had effortlessly plucked the thoughts from his mind. He swallowed hard, his throat suddenly dry as parchment.

"We normally would never intervene in your or any other species' affairs unless it concerns your or their extinction," the being continued, its tone carrying no hint of emotion. "So I hope you understand the gravity of this conversation in its entirety."

Octavian nodded slowly, the weight of the situation settling upon him like a heavy cloak. His mind raced, struggling to process the implications of these words. If this being, this impossible entity, deemed it necessary to intervene, what horrors awaited humanity?

"We have encountered a being of vast resources and potential that, like you, held promise," the creature began, its six arms gesturing in a hypnotic dance as it beckoned for Octavian to follow.

As if in a trance, Octavian found himself moving forward, his feet carrying him after the being of their own accord. The world around them seemed to blur and shift, reality bending to accommodate their passage. With each step, Octavian felt as though he were walking on the edge of a precipice, teetering between the known and the unknowable.

After what felt like both an eternity and mere seconds, Octavian realized they had entered another room. At its center stood a solitary chair, a throne of sorts that exuded an aura of power and authority. The being moved towards it with fluid grace, settling upon the seat as if it were the most natural thing in the world.

Octavian watched, transfixed, as the creature's six arms began to move once more. They prodded and gestured at the air, manipulating invisible threads of reality that only it could perceive. The sight was both mesmerizing and unsettling, a reminder of the vast gulf that separated this being from humanity.

The silence stretched on, heavy and oppressive, until Octavian could bear it no longer. His voice, when he finally spoke, sounded small and fragile in the vastness of the room.

"This being that you mention," he began, his words cautious and measured, "is it the android?"

The creature's numerous eyes focused on him once more, and Octavian felt the weight of universes in that gaze. A single, regal nod preceded its response.

"Yes and no."

Confusion etched itself across Octavian's features, his brow furrowing as he struggled to make sense of the cryptic answer. The being, seeming to sense his bewilderment, elaborated.

"The ones you call Androids are not all inherently bad, it's just..." The creature paused, as if searching for the right words to convey concepts beyond human comprehension. "The very first android has done something which only I and my kin should be able to do."

Before Octavian could process this revelation, the being reached forth with one of its many hands. Long, delicate fingers extended towards him, and with a simple, elegant motion, they snapped.

The world lurched, reality twisting and reforming around them. Octavian blinked, disoriented, to find himself once again following the creature as it led him into the room with the grand chair. His mind reeled, struggling to comprehend what had just occurred.

"Didn't we just-" he began, his voice tinged with confusion and a hint of fear.

The being cut him off mid-sentence, its tone carrying a gravity that silenced any further questions. "Temporal manipulation."

Those two words hung in the air between them, heavy with implications that Octavian could scarcely begin to fathom. The creature's eyes locked with his own, and he felt pinned in place by the intensity of its gaze.

"This is an ability that is far too dangerous for any being, human or otherwise, to possess."

Octavian's mind raced, piecing together the fragments of information he'd been given. Time manipulation? The concept seemed pulled from the pages of science fiction, yet here he stood, confronted with its reality.

"Doesn't that mean humanity is screwed?" The words tumbled from his lips before he could stop them, raw and unfiltered.

The being regarded him with those steely, otherworldly eyes, its expression unreadable. When it spoke, its voice carried the weight of eons.

"No. That android has yet to fully understand the true potential of temporal displacement, though it is but a matter of time."

A glimmer of hope sparked within Octavian, only to be quickly tempered by the gravity of the situation. If this being, with all its impossible power, deemed the android's abilities a threat, what chance did humanity stand?

"Then, why get me involved?" Octavian asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

The creature shifted slightly in its throne, its six arms moving in complex patterns as it formulated its response. When it spoke, each word seemed carefully chosen, laden with meaning beyond mere syllables.

"Our direct involvement would undoubtedly speed up the process of the first android understanding its ability to manipulate time," it explained. "This would not only harm the human race but even us as well."

Octavian's mind whirled with the implications. This being, so far beyond human comprehension, feared the consequences of the android's growing power. The realization sent a shiver down his spine, a cold dread settling in the pit of his stomach.

"So, you need a... proxy?" he ventured, the pieces slowly falling into place.

The being inclined its head in a regal nod. "Precisely. Your unique nature even as a demi-human makes you ideally suited for this task. You possess abilities beyond those of ordinary humans, yet you remain connected to your humanity. This balance is crucial."

Octavian's hands clenched at his sides, a turmoil of emotions roiling within him. Fear, uncertainty, and a strange sense of purpose warred for dominance. He took a deep breath, trying to center himself amidst the cosmic enormity of the situation.

"What exactly would you have me do?" he asked, his voice steadier than he felt.

The being's eyes seemed to glow with an inner light as it leaned forward slightly. "You must prevent the android from fully realizing its temporal abilities. This may require... extreme measures."

The implication hung heavy in the air between them. Octavian swallowed hard, understanding dawning in his eyes. "You want me to assassinate the android leader."

It wasn't a question, but the being nodded nonetheless. "The fate of not just humanity, but the very fabric of reality itself, may rest upon your success."

Silence fell over the room as Octavian grappled with the weight of this responsibility. Images flashed through his mind: the struggles of humanity against the android threat, the countless lives lost, the uncertain future that loomed before them. And now, this impossible being offering a chance to change everything.

His fists clenched and unclenched at his sides, a physical manifestation of his inner turmoil. The logical part of his mind screamed at the impossibility of it all, at the danger he would be putting himself in. But deep within, a spark of determination began to grow.

Octavian raised his eyes to meet the creature's gaze, his jaw set with newfound resolve. In that moment, he felt the weight of history settling upon his shoulders, the fate of humanity hanging in the balance.

"I'll do it," he said, his voice low but firm. "I'll find a way to stop the android leader, whatever it takes."

The being's numerous eyes seemed to shimmer with an otherworldly light, a flicker of what might have been approval passing across its features. "Then let it be so," it intoned, its voice resonating with the finality of a cosmic decree.

As the words faded, Octavian felt a surge of energy course through him, as if the very universe itself was acknowledging his acceptance of this monumental task. He stood straighter, his fears not vanquished but tempered by a steely determination.

The mission before him was clear, the stakes higher than he could have ever imagined. Octavian, demi-human and now the unlikely champion of humanity's future, prepared to face the challenge that lay ahead. The assassination of the android leader and king awaited, and with it, the fate of time and reality itself.
