The horizon was painted with shades of yellow and orange of dawn. Beside the tree stump, used for wood cutting, stood Darius before his two disciples. He used it as small table to place the Orb of Magical Affinity.
The women were still and focused. Patiently awaiting his directions. He noticed that Fiona was dressed differently than usual; a grey gown patched with varied colours of square cloths. The hue was fading from the years of use and washes it experienced.
A leather corset was around her torso. Snugly, it covered below half of her humongous breasts. This caused them to look even larger and formed a cleavage so deep that he wanted to dive into it like an olympic diver— he was happy.
Tiara was in her usual clothing except her medium dark hair were in a ponytail. She barely kept herself from bombarding him with questions incessant. Not that Fiona was any better, but being oldest and a mother left her with the duty of being the most mature. Behind her pretense of calmness, Darius could see her excitement. Both their eyes remained unmoving from the curious object he brought.
*Ahem*
He cleared his throat bringing their attention from the object to him, "This crystal ball is called Orb of Magical Affinity."
"Woww~" The name itself roused the amazement of the two starry-eyed girls, even Fiona had not heard of anything like this. Understandable since she never left the village before; like her daughter she had heard only stories of the outside world.
Their reaction confused him. He only told them a name and he got such reaction; he wondered if Fiona would smother him with her breast at the end of this lesson.
"Hihihi~" A perverted high-pitched giggle escaped his lips.
"Darius!" Tiara called loudly, startling him away from his daydreams.
"Fuck." He said under his breath, calming his heart, "What is it, Tiara?"
"Where did you get this from?" She enquired.
"..."
She stared eagerly at him, expecting an answer.
"...That's... a good question which I'll answer later." Darius avoided, "Any other questions?"
"No, but--"
"Excellente." He clapped once, "Now onto the more important questions. This orb will help me know more about your talent and affinity regarding your magic."
"What it does is scan a person's body and mind through magic runes and enchantments inscribed on it during the production." Darius saw their undivided attention— Tiara seemed confused which he ignored for now and continued, "It will show you three things; Magic Potential, Mana Control, and Elemental Affinity."
"Magic Potential extends to your Mana pool, Mana density, and Mana affinity; this is something that a person is born with. Mana Control shows a person's inherent talent in controlling Mana and their Mana efficiency in casting spells, also their growth rate when further improving their control of Mana through practice. And at last, Elemental Affinity, this is fundamentally a person's affinity towards a specific element like Fire, Earth, Air, Water. If a person has Water affinity then he can learn spells of that particular element faster, respectively, learning Fire element spells would be much harder."
He examined their expressions, Tiara did not seem to understand much judging from her confused expression, while Fiona too looked a little confused, she also had an expression of realisation and understanding. He would explain them more in details later, for now he needed to test them.
They were brought out their thoughts by his following words, "Now we will proceed with the affinity testing."
"Come here, Tiara." He gestured with his hand. She had a slight spring in her steps as she approached him. He motioned towards the crystal ball, "Put your head... Hand on this orb."
This many days without a smartphone and social media, yet those memes would not leave his mind.
Tiara placed her tanned hand onto the orb. No reaction. She looked at him.
"Wait a little." Confidently, he said.
They waited...
They waited a little more...
He was sweating under their gaze but they waited more...
He was not confident anymore, still they waited some more...
An idea to make himself scarce came into being in his mind. However, before he acted upon it— a sudden light enshrouded them.
It originated from the orb. Their eyes shut from the sheer brightness. Darius sheltered his eyes behind his forearm, an expression of shock and incredulity on his face, 'She's a one in a million prodigy! A heavenly genius! Oh my god! Is this the advent of the greatest mage in the annals of history!?"
