In the empty dark office, the clickkity-clack of keyboard was resounding. Darius was once again, working overtime.
It was the fourth time, that the same colleague of his left early leaving all the work to him. But he was a thoughtful, kind, and compassionate senior, allowed him to do so for his date.
...
....
Nope. Darius had nothing better to do at home. He had neither a girlfriend nor a family, his friends... Well, they are gay; as per the agreement they had 5 years ago whoever died first is gay.
All he had at home, was a PS5 and a gaming PC. He could have gone home to play games, but games can only do so much to compensate for a person's loneliness.
He smashed the enter key and stretched a little. The clock showed 10 o'clock, 2 hours of overtime and he completed 3 days worth of work.
He stood up, cracked his back then walked towards the window. His hand rolled the window open, eyes gazing at the full moon.
Darius was thinking if he should just jump from here. It was the 10th floor so, surviving the fall was near impossible.
But he slowly shook his head and brought a cigarette to his lips, lighting it. A breath of tobacco calmed his nerves. He would not give in to a moment of weakness.
As much as pathetic he thought his life was, he would never commit suicide. His unknown parents and his dead friends would be disappointed if he did.
Moreover, one never knows when life will take a good turn. He had decided long ago that he would die of either old age or when God decided for him.
Until then, he would let life take its course and see where it goes.
As he took the last sip of the remaining cigarette, he gazed at the blinking red light far in the sky.
A while later, he realized that the blinking red light was getting closer. He stood there trying to identify that source object.
Maybe, he would luck out and be the first person to meet a beautiful alien girl. Impossible it might be. But a man could dream.
The object grew closer and the light became blinding. It was large, humongous even. And it was approaching fast.
"Bitch! This isn't even the Twin Towers." He exclaimed and the plane crashed into the building.
