It's six in the evening, I'm getting dressed with a faith I've never believed in before. She hasn't called me yet but I'm going to the restaurant hoping she'll make it.
I opt for black skinny jeans, a black t-shirt, white Nike J4 and throw on a leather jacket. I spend a little extra time styling my hair. I also went and extra mile and changed my deo.
I'm thinking about her the whole way to the restaurant, the captivating blue eyes mostly. How can one have eyes so blue.
I'm sitting on an outside table for two I'd reserved yesterday. I chose one with the ocean view. I love this place for its breeze which carries a salty ocean scent, the lanterns lined on the prestine water surface adding a romantic feel to the place and their playlist never disappoints.
I'm checking the entrance now and again until a feeling of restlessness settles over me. It's been an hour since I got here. I order black grape juice and just sit there watching the ocean without anymore expectations.
Just the way you are by Bruno Mars is playing when my attention is pulled towards the entrance. I'm about to give up thinking it was just a stupid intuition, when she walks in.
I can't take my eyes off her nomatter how I'm afraid she'll see me oogling. She's looking around for me and I take the chance to take her in. She's dressed in a simple cream sundress and black sandals, her hair is hanging in loose curls and she's holding a silver clutch in one hand a black fur jersey in another. She doesn't seem to have put in alot of effort but she looks stunning.
Her gaze lands on mine and I find myself unable to move, slowly drowning in her blues. I manage to compose myself enough to raise a hand and fix a strained smile on my face. She earns glances as she walks towards me. I'm sure she isn't aware of the kind of attention she draws.
"Hey", she says smiling sheepishly. I just smile, pulling out a chair for her. I'm overwhelmed by the fact that she came that I'm at a loss of words. " You came", I say still unable to believe it, when we're finally settled. "As is evident", she replies with a cocky smile on, "Don't be too happy about it though". I raise my eyes and meet her gaze for the first time tonight and ask, "Why shouldn't I be when you're sitting in front of me like this?" She rolls her eyes and say," Well, my 'other' engagement got cancelled and I was bored with nothing else to do soo..". She stops mid sentence gesturing for me to finish it for her, so I say "Here you are, I don't care about the reasons, the most important thing is that you are here". "To escape boredom", she retorts, smiling. I laugh and raise my hands in surrender and say, " You are impossible". "Let's eat something." I say ringing a bell to surmon a waiter.
I watch her as she goes over the menu. Her beauty is out of this world. Everything on her face is in harmony with each other, full plump cubid lips, a Greek nose, perfectly straight, almond shaped eyes, soft angled eyebrows all perfectly placed on an oval face with high cheekbones.
She orders beef caparcio for her appetizer, lobster Mac and cheese for her main dish, pineapple upside down cake for dessert and Merlot. I order the same with a different wine, Pinot noir.
We enjoy our dinner over light conversation.
It's two hours thirty minutes later when I drive her downtown back home. I punch her location into my GPS and we drive in a comfortable silence.
Whe reach an old tripple storey building, I round the car and open the door for her. She smiles and says," You wanna come inside?" The question comes as a shock to me but I still say, "Sure, why not".
She leads the way through the glass doors, down the stairs and to a studio apartment. She opens a steel door and gestures for me to go in.
A knot ties in my stomach at the site of the room. There's an inflatable mattress with blankets folded on it in one corner, a glass cubicle which I assume is the bathroom in another and a small chest of drawers arranged with toiletries on top carved into a wall with a small mirror above it.
I try to ease the tension building up in me by asking, " You live alone?" "Of course, I'm 19", she replies defensively. She walks up to me, presses herself flush against me, looks into my eyes for a brief moment then kisses me. I kiss her back but I can't match up to her. I tear myself away from her and with burdened breaths I say, " I think we should take things slow". She looks surprised, but she mutters out an ok.
"You want some coffee?" She asks, looking around with her lips pursed. I look around as well, but see no cups or coffee maker. As much as I want an excuse to spend more time with her, I still say, " No, I gotta rush home, maybe another time."
The whole ride home I'm thinking about how the whole evening unfolded, it was a beautiful night. I've never felt this refreshed in a long while. The way it ended is still gnawing on my mind though, I hope she's not mad at me. She thought I did everything I did for her for sex. I wonder what she thinks of the male race. It's upsetting that she categorised me with the rest of them.
It's a Thursday morning when I receive a call from Miss Moleens. I'm surprised to see the blonde from the cafe when I arrive in the head of department's office. " Mr Richards," Mr Dimp, the head says, "Please take a seat." I comply and seat across the blonde glaring at her. Her head is hanging low and her hands are clasped together on her lap. Mr Dimp clears his throat and says ," The case we called you in for last week and promised to investigate, we did as promised." He looks at me waiting for me to say something but I don't and so he continues, " Her name is Sicily", pointing at the blonde who is still sitting in the same position as when I got in. "She has something to say to you". There's a long stretch of silence before she speaks up. "I don't have the whole day Miss, get on with it", I say. She briefly looks up at me before averting her gaze and says, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to do it. He offered me money, and I needed it." "He? Who is 'he'". I snap. She continues to sit there as if she was expecting my reaction and continues, "He asked me to get 8 codes from your system, and that's what I did when I sat besides you in the cafe."She goes quiet afterwards, Mr Dimp chips in and says, " She won't say who 'he' is, but we will get to the bottom of this." He looks at me expecting some kind of praise but I get up and say, " Don't call me back to your office before you have all the information again and I hope my assignment is reviewed."
I get out of his office as soon as I'm done. I know he'll know best not to call me because the college gets chunks of funds from my dad's firm. They can't risk a bad word from me to my dad.
I drive off to visit Haz, the thought of her works as an antidote to my poisoned mood.
I'm walking up to the elevator when I hear someone call me, " Reign, wait up". I'm surprised that it's someone who knows my birth name. I turn around to see the most annoying girl around. She has a bad temper, whines all the time, she acts as if her mother owns the world and she's a bully. To make matters worse, she's blonde. I force a smile and greet her, "Lynn, hie. What are you doing here." I say looking around, knowing this is the last place she would want to be, considering her love to uphold her status. "Oow I was just bored and started looking around, thought I could find something that might interest me, but this place is a dumb." She says, rolling her eyes. I knew she was up to no good but I don't bother ask. "What are you doing here yourself," she says pointing at me with her artificial long nail. "Well, I'm here to get gifts for my mom," I lie and start towards the elevator. She turns around flipping her hair and struts away.
I don't know how I got tangled up with such a person. I blame it on my dad.
