As they all sat in the back of their mother's car once again, Amy couldn't help but feel mortified at the thought of her first day at this new school, quite normal and Gramma and Sera assuring her that it would be perfectly fine, even more so. It was only when they started driving that she wondered how they were going to get there.
"Are we getting on a train like Hogwarts?" Alex asked. "Nope, this way is a bit more interesting." Their Mom replied. They drove into the forest and kept driving until they came to a clearing and they all got out. It was almost evening and the sun was blazing. "What are we doing here?" Amy asked.
"There's a special way for any hunter to get to Tosai when needed," Sera explained as she carried a mirror out of the car and placed it in the middle of the clearing. "Now watch carefully", She flexed her fingers, and her nails immediately turned into claws. She touched the mirror with the tip of her nail and spun it in a circle, immediately as she finished tracing the circle. She whizzed into the mirror so fast that Amy barely caught it. Her Mom was next, She closed her eyes and a golden crown appeared on her head. It looked as if many thorned branches had been tied together and turned into a crown. It was so simple yet so... Elegant. Her mom smiled at her and said, " I prefer it like this, It's fancier. " Amy rolled her eyes as her mom bent down and touched the mirror with her forehead and disappeared.
Alex was more into the claw thing and soon he was gone too. Amy stared at the mirror and asked "What if you don't have a mirror and need to get to the school?" "Then you can use a river or pond or any water body. If things are really bad then a circle with your blood should do fine.
She extended her claws and soon she was gone too. She sat by the mirror and then realized. No one had told her how to extend her claws. She put her palm in front of her and flexed her fingers. Yep. There they were obediently extending. She traced a circle and gasped. It felt as if someone had pushed her from behind and practically thrown her into the mirror. Which felt like ice-cold water. She resurfaced completely dry.
The scene she saw gave her a chill even icier than the water. The columns were large bones. And the tops were decorated with skulls. Amy flinched when Alex and the other called her over. "Isn't it awesome!" Alex said. "Totally...." Amy replied. " Well, kids go socialize with people you don't know," Gramma said as she shooed them away.
Amy felt surreal as she walked through the strangely decorated ballroom. The ceiling was so high and the room so dimly lit that Amy couldn't see what the ceiling looked like. She suddenly felt a large push from behind as someone wrapped her hands around her. She turned around quickly.
"PENELOPE!" Amy almost screamed." What are you doing here?" "The same thing you are! I can not believe we're both doing this together!" Penelope said frantically. "You're a hunter too?" Amy asked, still waiting for the shock to subside. "Yep! I'm a seer, what about you?" Penelope said. "Same" Amy replied. " Oh wow! I heard seers are really rare. We've only got about seven or eight in our year!
"That's not too bad" Amy said reproachfully. " Come on Amy! There are about five hundred students this year and only seven seers and my mom said it's the first time we've had this many! "Wow then seers must be really rare." Amy said shocked again. " Yep! A lot of people call us true hunters and some..." She stopped and looked as if she tasted something sour, " call us "half-monsters"" " Ugh.. so I take it we're not too popular." Amy said exhaustedly. " Oh no! Only a handful think like that and that's just because their sour." Penelope shrugged.
"Anyways... Food!" Penelope said as she grabbed Amy's wrist and took her to a round table and they sat down.
They had clear crystal plates. " The principal loves crystal for some reason." Penelope explained. " Ain't that the truth" Amy thought remembering her Gramma's large crystal dishes collection. She said' "Pea soup, Steaming hot" and Amy saw the bowl of hot soup materialized on her plate. Not needing an explanation for this one she immediately said " cheesy fries" and they appeared obediently. She picked up her fork and lifted a few fries and was surprised to see the abnormally long cheese pull. As soon as she ate it she felt like heaven. It was spicy, creamy and Herby all at the same time. She quickly wolfed it down and ordered another. The lights dimmed even more as her Gramma stepped on the stage and said with her voice magnified" Welcome students! Blah blah blah" " What she meant was that she hopes you liked the food" Sera quickly broke in. " You know I can't memorize speeches as the whole ball room broke into laughter.
"Now that that's out of the way Now... Let's began the real scarientation ball." Her Gramma said mysteriously.
