Chapter 59 - Chapter 59 Formidable Opponent

Somewhere across the world

"Where in heaven's name did you hear these words?" One of the guards asks. "There're a lot of whispering going on in the palace." The other replied, then adds. "Not only did I hear that the prince killed both his mother and his pregnant fiancée then disappear but I also heard that his father may have killed all three and is now trying to cover it up."

"Bite your tongue and keep your voice low when uttering such nonsense." "Sorry, but I'll admit, the one about the prince killing his mother and fiancée is a bit ludicrous because the prince would never hurt his mother and even though he and his fiancée weren't together long I really don't see him hurting her either, especially since she was carrying the future heir to this kingdom." The guard snorts and then continues.

"But his father going on a killing spree and taking out all three of them doesn't seem so far-fetched if you really think about it. His father is probably the only person who could approach him without him sensing a threat. I mean, we're talking about a formidable opponent here; he's no easy target."

"That is even more ludicrous than what you said before. The king adores his wife and worships the ground his son walks on and that woman was carrying his first grandchild, so forget him hurting her but if you think about it, there's one other person that would benefit greatly from all that has happened and he could also approach the prince without him sensing any danger."

"Who?" "Dmitri." "What? No, no way, the poor guy has been crying his eyes out since the prince disappeared." "Also true, but trust me, that would make more sense than anything you've said before, and if he's the one behind all this, then that means his Majesty is also in danger. There's no time to waste, I need to call Keshan, then we need to speak to the king."

"Your Majesty, we really need to get you into protective custody." The chief of police advised. "Forget about that, I'm not going anywhere." The king growls. "Your Majesty, you're in grave danger." "I govern an entire country, I'm constantly in grave danger, why do you think I turned my son into a living weapon." he snorts.

"Besides, if that scum is really behind all this and he's after what I think he's after, then he can't kill me just yet. He needs me to publicly appoint him, blasted ingrate. This is all my fault. Every awful thing that has happened to my family is on me." The king fell to his knees, wrapping his arms around his midsection.

"Your Majesty." The chief runs towards him, but he held out his hand to stop him. "Don't." He growls. "When my wife wanted to rip the bastard from this world, I was the one who begged for his life. me, she warned me that something along this line might happen, but I convinced her otherwise.

Don't put the father's sin on the child, I said. With the proper care, maybe he can become someone of substance someday, I said. By the gods, I was wrong, so very wrong, because of him I've lost my wonderful wife and the woman my son loved dearly. A person I thought could become someone decent has now become a bloody stain on my family." The king slowly rose to his feet and took a deep, shuddering breath.

"This was his choice; he could've chosen not to succumb to his evil thoughts, but instead he chose to act on them, and now he will bear the consequences of his actions, as I will also have to for not listening to my wife. I'm going to make that scum wish he was never born." The king sneers coldly.

"Um...your Majesty, considering who we believe is behind all this, do you still think your son is alive?" "My son and I share a special bond; if he was no longer a part of this world, I would know."

"How would you like to proceed, your Majesty?" "Before we get to that, let us hear what the two guards outside have to say first." "As you wish, your Majesty."

guard and unknown evil

"Welcome back, I trust the project that the king send you on was successful?" "Yes, it was, the king will be very pleased. So, what has been going on since I was away?"

"Oh, a lot, I must apologize before hand for casting a dark shadow on your success but the prince was recently named the primary suspect in the death of his mother and fiancée."

"Nonsense! What brought about this conclusion?" "Well, the fact that his mother's necklace which she never takes off and his fiancée's engagement ring that she was wearing when she disappeared, was found in the prince's private quarters."

"After all this time, they just found these items? Could they have been planted there?" "Not likely, thing is, the prince was never a suspect, so his quarters was never searched, but somehow, someone suggest that the cops search his quarters to see if they could find a clue, anything that could indicate what might have happened to him but they found these items instead."

"I'm not following, he was close to both women, why is finding these items in his quarters such a big deal? Oh shit, wait, that necklace that the queen always wear was given to her by the king, she practically lived in that thing, so why would he have it?"

"Exactly, not to mention, I heard one of the cops say it was broken as if someone ripped it from her neck, and to make matters worse, the prince was the one that told the cops to check pawn shops and such places for his fiancée's ring, which she was wearing when she disappeared, in case the ones who kidnapped her tried to sell it and all this time the ring was in his quarters." the guard adds.

"So the jewellery that both ladies were wearing when they disappeared was found in his quarters, this is indeed unfortunate." The man sigh heavily. "How is the king handling this new development?"

"Not good, you know how he worships his son and to hear his name being dragged through the muck like this...." The guard voice trails off as he shakes his head then continues.

"On the other hand, the king has his own problems, he now has to answer questions such as, did he know about any of this? Is he covering for his son? Is he responsible for his son's disappearance? Is he hiding him somewhere? Or did he kill him upon discovering what his son had done?

Anyway, all this leads up to one thing, the king may have to relinquish his duties while all this is been investigated, the council will be meeting one day next week to discuss the way forward."

A few seconds after the guard left, the man's smile widen as he slams his fist into his palm. "Yes, finally, after months of careful planning, things were finally looking up. Those bitches were out of the way and the worshipped prince is been sought for murder, which isn't a problem because he is dead.

The old man will have to step aside and hand someone else the throne and of course that someone will be me and once I'm appointed, I'll get rid of that old bastard." The man thought his smile widening further.

"Things are looking up indeed, starting those rumours, planting those items and suggesting to one idiot that maybe a clue could be found in the prince's quarters was genius indeed." He smile kissing the tip of his fingers.
