Chapter 2 - Ensnared

She thought of dark things, the snow swelling around her legs like a blanket. The sun had let its last light hours ago, the night surrounding her like ghouls ready to swallow her whole. She should head back, but her body refused to move, her limbs seemingly rooted to the tree enclosing her. She leaned back scanning her surroundings, a fairy forest surrounded her, pure and ethereal. A haze of light swung in the trees at the edge of her vision. "A light?" The spell of her immobility cured, she swung her legs around trying to dislodge herself from her icy drift barrier.

She ran. Not graceful, like the elk she often watched glide through the forest, but desperate. She clambered through rough brush and downed ancient trees, branches clawed at her bare arms and legs. Her thin dress hardly meant for such activity. The light grew around her sending shadows across the icy cage of trees.

A lame tree caught her leg, sputtering she went down, her ankle like fire crawling up her leg. White powder caked her hair as her body rolled down an embankment, a great oak caught her with a loud thump and darkness ensnared her.

Alarras eyes cracked open slowly. Orbs of light glowed on the edges of her vision, dripping with fine golden dust and shimmering iridescent rays. Her fingers extended, and before she could stop herself she grasped the light. The orbs began to flicker and strobe a great burning light. Alarra shrieked then smacked them away. Like falling stars they scattered, coming to an abrupt halt and dying out. Recovering, she reached into the darkness once more, finding the rough scrape of wood. Without the lights she was blind. Quietly she pushed on the wooden walls enclosing her, they didn't budge, she was in a box of sorts about a steps worth of room within it. Her breath hitched. No. No not yet! I've been captured, ensnared like a forest Vixen in a hunters trap. Slowly she sank to the floor. This can't be happening.. Her surroundings shifted and her head became fuzzy. Thoughts shot erratically like a hive of angry bees. "I can't do this.." she whispered, just as the edges of darkness consumed her.
