Chapter 5 - Night Rover

Ethan was left in a state of awe as he stared at the young miss named Emma Macloy, designated as "Level 0." Perplexed, he couldn't find the words to express his astonishment, having never encountered anyone like her before.

"Is she really that weak?" Ethan wondered aloud, unable to suppress his curiosity. He turned to the system for answers.

After reaching Level 18 and receiving an update, Ethan gained the ability to analyze subjects in more detail. This Analyze feature allowed him to scrutinize various materials, people, or even bystanders for comprehensive insights.

"System, analyze her condition," Ethan requested, keen on unraveling the mystery.

Beep...

"Subject, Emma Macloy, has been analyzed!"

Report:

- Suffering from an acute disease.

- Unable to analyze in-depth without contact, but the meridians may be damaged.

"Mystic meridians like in novels? In cultivation novels stuff? That's interesting," Ethan mused.

"System, do you have a solution for this problem?" he inquired.

Beep...

"Yes, if the issue is with the meridians, a solution is available. Host can buy a manual and silver needles in the store," the system informed.

Ethan opened the store with enthusiasm, only to be deflated by the costs.

- Silver needles: 10 points

- Acupuncture manual: 210 points

With zero points, Ethan realized he needed to embark on missions. His determination strengthened as he decided to save the damsel in distress.

After work, Ethan opened the mission panel, discovering a new mission related to the matter of digging. However, he also received a daily mission.

Beep...

"Daily mission: Monitor the alley where the undead was found for one night."

Annoyed by the seemingly unreasonable mission, Ethan changed into suitable attire and went to the alley, choosing a strategic spot on the roof of a three-story house. He decided to wear the Red Fox Mask and found it fitting perfectly.

As the night progressed, Ethan grew tired and annoyed.

"I'm sleepy, you system! What's the point of this mission?" he grumbled.

Suddenly, he sensed a presence in the alley. Observing from his vantage point, Ethan saw a young girl and a boy, both strong individuals.

Boy:

- Level 47 (Subordinate of Lord Benjamin)

Girl:

- Level 39 (????)

Confused by their presence, Ethan witnessed the boy using a radar-like device, detecting the smell of blood and the undead presence of their master.

"Mission completed. Host has obtained 60 points. Host's level is also increased to 20. Now host can buy things from the store," the system announced.

"Congratulations to host for unlocking the lottery section. One lottery will be available daily for the host. Today's lottery is available."

Feeling sleepy, Ethan decided to check the lottery later and blurred away, heading home.

Name: Ethan

Level: 20

Stats points: 3

Points: 60

Strength: 50

Agility: 15

Vitality: 10

Intelligence: 12

Beep...

"Daily mission: 200 pushups, 200 pullups, 7 km run."

As Ethan woke up, this notification greeted him. He headed to the bathroom to freshen up and checked the mission details afterward.

"A daily mission, hmm, easy."

After a light breakfast, he dressed nicely, preparing for the day he planned to resign from his job. He considered giving the chest to those looking for it and claiming to have found it, but the system had other plans.

Beeep...

"Chest can't be given to anyone else due to blood contract."

"That's a no, I suppose. Well, forget it," Ethan sighed.

While reviewing his level and status, he noticed the lottery section.

"I didn't check it yesterday." Ethan clicked on it, revealing a round table with numbers and corresponding prizes from the store.

"Now I have a daily chance to buy a thing for free!" Ethan felt delighted as he rolled the ball. Keys appeared among the prizes, and he queried the system about their purpose.

"Keys are for dungeons. Host can level up by going in and fighting the monsters," the system explained.

"Dungeons? Interesting," Ethan thought.

As the ball stopped on the round table, he obtained an Acupuncture Manual.

Beep...

"Congratulations to the host for winning the acupuncture manual from the lottery. Does the host want to learn it?"

"Yes!" A warm feeling enveloped Ethan as he absorbed new knowledge.

Feeling satisfied, Ethan headed to the construction site, where everyone was working diligently.

"Is the young miss here again?" Ethan wondered as he approached the manager's room, finding the manager guarding the entrance.

"Oh, you, young boy from back then," the manager recognized him.

"It's an honor that you remember me, haha," Ethan replied courteously.

"So, why do you wanna leave? Is it pay?" the manager inquired softly.

"No, it's not that. I joined to train my body, but now I'm already good enough, so I was thinking that I should change and do something else," Ethan explained politely.

The manager went inside to consult with the young miss. When he returned, his tone was gentler.

"Young miss is okay with you leaving, but we need people nowadays, so if you can, please stay."

Ethan, firm in his decision, declined, excusing himself. However, as he took a few steps away, he asked a sudden question that caught the manager off guard.

"Did you invite someone else to protect your young miss?"

"Who are you?" The manager's tone turned stern, emitting an invisible pressure.

Ethan quickly clarified, "You are thinking wrong. There is a man on the roof of the room. That's why I asked."

"What?" The manager was alarmed and rushed in to find the young miss unharmed.

Inside, Ethan saw her for the second time, a dazzling beauty. Despite his initial thoughts, he discarded any inappropriate ideas as she was out of his league.

"Who are you?" Emma asked softly.

"I'm Ethan," he replied, his heart racing. He felt a presence on the roof, and he sensed the killing intent. The person had a regular killer's aura but not a high level.

"Level 25

(Member of Night Rover)"

Emma questioned the manager, "Can you feel the presence?"

"No, actually, I can't. That's why I came to young miss instead of going on the roof. If I'm with you, guarding you, then there's no issue!" the manager explained sternly, eyeing Ethan.

Surprised that the manager couldn't feel the presence, Ethan turned to stare at the window.
