Chapter 10 - Chapter 10 Prelude to Meeting

Year 387,

One year after the incident.

Imperial Palace.

After the incident, Arthur's life took a turn. More eyes were watching him, suspicion growing from both factions at court about the young Emperor's true intentions. Earl Volfor intervened behind the scenes, diverting their attention by making them fight among themselves.

In the quiet corners of Elmsworth, Arthur discreetly ordered the recruitment of more soldiers. He sought out old veterans and their families, providing them with employment and shelter in makeshift villages and towns.

This move formed a reservist force loyal to him. Over the months, Arthur and Garfield exchanged letters and met to discuss plans to overthrow the corrupt aristocracy and lead the Empire to glory.

Education for the young emperor shifted as he delved into learning 13 languages of the empire, the history of various tribes and regions, and the important figures of the empire.

Meanwhile, factions led by Duke Raul and Duke Aquila tried influencing Arthur, each wanting him to do their bidding. Arthur, recognizing his powerlessness, played along, understanding that his life depended on them.

Secretly, he began magical training with Ginny's help.

Ginny went undercover in Earl Volfor's intelligence unit, keeping an eye on Arthur and training him in magic. Although initially dissatisfied, Arthur accepted this as the best option for now. Both factions eyed Elmsworth Margrave, making Ginny a target.

While this unfolded, the Archdukes and their factions faced more pressing matters. As predicted by Arthur, the Nadur republic launched incursions into Eldorion Empire, specifically Raul Duchy, causing panic. Duke Raul had to intervene, and Arthur was made to give statements in his favor. To divert attention, Arthur granted ceremonial military titles to Duke's close subordinates.

On the western front, Archduke Aquila faced the return of the infamous Pirate Queen, targeting ships of aristocrats known for exploiting and tormenting innocents. At first she targeted Regent Faction ships, but later on she began capturing or out right killing nobles heirs, or nobles themselves.

The situation worsened when the Pirate Queen raided Brandenburg, the coastal capital of Duchy of Aquila, and took the Duke's eldest son captive.

This gave Arthur time to ponder and discuss plans to overthrow the tyrants.

But Deep within, doubt lingered – was he fit to be Emperor?

Did the people blame him for their misery?

Although not at fault, people often overlooked the fact that their Emperor was just a helpless child, controlled by a cruel aristocracy exploiting them.

This question hesitated within him. If the people didn't accept him as their Emperor, what was the point?

These thoughts started to overwhelm him.

'Maybe that's what Earl Volfor wanted to say that day,' he thought.

Despite not being responsible for the aristocracy's tyranny – in truth, a victim, a powerless Puppet Emperor – he felt a responsibility for his people's suffering.

The burden of being Emperor weighed on him.

In the heart of the Imperial Capital Eldora, a distinguished group entered a lavish carriage.

Among them was a striking young lady with shiny black hair, almost as young as Arthur.

"If it's the empire, they might help us in our ongoing crisis," she chirped optimistically.

"But, Your Highness, the Empire is entangled in conflicts with the Nadur Republic, and the sea is plagued by pirates – a nuisance for both them and us. Please reconsider. The two Aristocrats who control the Empire from the shadows have already refused to see us. Besides, the Emperor we seek is just a child," voiced a middle-aged man. The young lady revealed herself as a princess facing a crisis in her nation.

"Let's at least meet the Emperor. I've heard he's around my age, and rumors say he's a kind soul who saved his nanny and her family from a crisis. Maybe he'll listen to us," she insisted.

Over the last year, Arthur's reputation had shifted. He was now seen not just as a powerless child Emperor but as someone with a kind heart and a desire to protect those close to him.

"We can't go back empty-handed after investing precious resources and bribing high-ranking aristocrats. Can you arrange a meeting with His Majesty, so he could hear our plight? With your connections, I know you can do that," she pleaded with puppy eyes.

Unable to resist her charm, the middle-aged man relented and allowed her to proceed.

'Hmm, I don't know if it's my desire or not, but something's telling me that the castle in front of me is where my destiny lies,' she thought, her beautiful brown eyes fixated on the castle.

Little did she know, her intuition was spot on. This place held her destiny and was the beginning of a legendary love story that would inspire generations to come.

In the opening week of the new month, the Imperial Palace buzzed with activity, and the reason was none other than the impending arrival of the princess of the Belmont Kingdom. A crucial meeting awaited her with the young Emperor, and since the heads of both factions were unable to attend, they sent their representatives.

Representing Duke Raul was his only son and heir, Sigmund Von Raul – a dashing young man in his early teens, promoted as a brave and courageous general by the Prime Minister faction. However, beneath this façade, he mirrored the typical noble heir – arrogant, with a superiority complex, and holding respect only for his father, Duke Raul.

On the other hand, from Duke Aquila's camp came his third son, William Von Aquila. Average in appearance but exceptional in intellect, he was an advocate for law, his knowledge extending beyond the ordinary. His presence was strategic, attributed to the tumultuous rivalry between Douglas's first and second sons, prompting Douglas to entrust the crucial diplomatic mission to his capable third son, William.

As the meeting unfolded in the Imperium Paragon Plaza, a dedicated diplomatic space within the Imperial Palace of Cardinal, the grandeur of the hall became apparent.

Adorned with intricate marble columns, rich tapestries, and a soaring vaulted ceiling, the space exuded regality. At the focal point, atop an elevated dais, stood the Sovereign's Throne – a masterpiece crafted from gilded wood and embellished with the imperial crest, commanding attention and reverence.

The stage was set for this pivotal meeting, a diplomatic rendezvous featuring the young Emperor, Arthur.

To the right of the youthful sovereign, Sigmund of the Raul lineage assumed his seat in a chair bearing the family crest, representing a formidable noble faction.

On the opposing side, William, scion of the Aquila family, occupied a chair echoing the regal traditions of his lineage.

A smaller yet meticulously designed council table commanded the center, facilitating focused discussions. Soft lighting emanated from ornate chandeliers overhead, casting a dignified ambiance upon the negotiations. Imperial Guards, adorned in ceremonial armor, stood at attention, underscoring the meeting's significance and ensuring the child emperor's security.

The Imperium Paragon Plaza, with its opulent design, bore witness to the convergence of political power and diplomatic finesse. The marble columns, meticulously carved with scenes from the empire's storied history, created an awe-inspiring backdrop. Each tapestry narrated tales of conquests and alliances, weaving together the intricate fabric of the empire's narrative.

The high vaulted ceiling, adorned with celestial motifs, seemed to embrace the grandeur of the imperial aspirations. Golden hues played off the intricate detailing of the architecture, casting a warm glow upon the proceedings. The Sovereign's Throne, a testament to craftsmanship, stood as a symbol of authority and unity – a focal point against the rich backdrop.

The council table, though smaller, reflected a commitment to egalitarian discussion. Its polished surface, reflecting the ambient light, provided a neutral ground for negotiations. The plush chairs, adorned with the emblems of Raul and Aquila, bespoke a delicate balance of power.

As the Imperial Guards maintained their vigilant stance, the chandeliers above, with their crystal facets, refracted light, casting a mesmerizing dance upon the assembly. The air, laden with anticipation, resonated with the weight of decisions that could shape the fate of the empire.

In this arena of diplomacy, the Imperium Paragon Plaza stood not just as a physical space but as a testament to the empire's history, aspirations, and the delicate dance of power that unfolded within its walls. Each element, from the architectural nuances to the symbolic thrones, contributed to the rich tapestry of imperial politics and diplomacy.

As the attendees settled into their respective positions, a guard stationed near the door proclaimed the arrival of the foreign envoy.

"Princess Rosaline Von Belmont of the Belmont Kingdom has graced us with her presence!"
